Alinksy, the Left, and Conservative Intelligence

by | Aug 31, 2018 | Articles, Politics, The Left

Enshrined in a bubble where violence is a social construct, all conservatives are white supremacists, and facts are sexist, the left is oblivious to the fact that they are losing the culture war. Young people are making traditional values great again, the Counterfeit News Network keeps losing its audience, and the globalist establishment is being burned to the ground. Progressivism is getting buried – and quick.

How did this happen? It’s because the right has finally turned the tables on the left by ripping a page out of Saul Alinsky’s influential 1971 book, Rules for Radicals, and using it against the latte-sipping, soap-hating, race-baiting, and socialism-loving libfeminists. And it’s about time.

According to Alinsky’s Rule Four, activists need to “make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” He expanded on this recommendation:

“If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules. (This is a serious rule. The besieged entity’s very credibility and reputation is at stake, because if activists catch it lying or not living up to its commitments, they can continue to chip away at the damage.)”

Let’s just concede that it took the right way too long to make their political adversaries live up to their own standards. As LN has documented so far, the left has incorporated Alinsky’s teachings into their political strategies. Because conservatives and libertarians utilized conventional means – penning white papers, participating in debates, and practicing good manners a la William F. Buckley and Milton Friedman – the left was able to grab power and gradually transform society into various elements from 1984, Animal Farm, and Brave New World.

Left’s Double Standards

Leftist orthodoxy is embedded in the mainstream press, the entertainment industry, academia, sports, and anything else downstream from the political arena. They establish society’s rules; they outline what is acceptable and unacceptable. Should you dare violate the left’s ever evolving standards, which, in today’s world, merely requires having an independent mind, then you will be cast out like a leper – but only if you are not aligned with their tribe.

In other words, in the same way Spencer Tracy’s character from Fury was a victim of a bloodthirsty mob for a crime he never committed, you need to be prepared for a modern-day lynching if you’re a conservative or a libertarian for having a different opinion.

But what happens when one of their own breaks the rules of leftism? Well, then it is somehow different, an excuse that has become far too common and far too prevalent.

The #MeToo movement taught us that it is OK to sexually harass another person as long as you are a woman. The New York Times revealed that it is fine to be racist as long as you are prejudiced to white people. The press told the public that questioning a politician’s health is wrong, except if it is President Donald Trump, then it requires 24/7 network news coverage. CNN has repeatedly defended Antifa, but routinely attacked the peaceful gatherings of the Tea Party.

It is a saying that has become cliché at this point, but it remains worth pointing out once again: If the left didn’t have double standards, then it wouldn’t have any standards at all.

Selective Outrage is Ubiquitous

Selective outrage is another key tenet of the left. In an ultra-sensitive environment, everyone is outraged about something. A public policy has a specific voting bloc outraged. A television advertisement has the obese shedding tears. A tweet is causing feminists to clutch at their pearls – or is it their pussy hats nowadays?

Let’s take a brief look at one of the most contentious and rage-fueled issues of the day: immigration.

When the left, including former President Barack Obama, proposed constructing a barrier at the U.S.-Mexico border and applying the nation’s immigration laws to punish those who cross the border illegally, the media celebrated and championed the cause. However, when President Trump adopted the same positions, then the left hyperventilated and called it fascism.

Or, when the previous administration maintained a border family separation policy, the left was silent. It was only with the current administration that the left started shrieking about separating parents from their children.

Why is there so much outrage everywhere? It’s simple: It’s all about attaining power and control.

Like Willie Stark from All the King’s Men, if you hop onto a soapbox and express your anger every day, then you will inevitably attract more people to your cause. This is a method MSNBC successfully exhausts each day, getting the left to detest the president more than they did on Election Day.

To some, Rachel Maddow crying about separating kids from their mothers and fathers is only a political stunt meant to rally the troops. To others, Rachel Maddow crying about the subject shows that we are in living in perilous times and action must be taken at the ballot box. Considering that MSNBC ranks second in cable news, you cannot fault many on the right for having consternation that the Democrats may seize legislative power come November.

Keep Up the Momentum

The right needs to apply the pressure and keep up the momentum. This can only be achieved by continuing to identify the principle, uncover the violation, and spotlight it to the world, a method that right-leaning publications, social media figures, and prominent pundits have done an excellent job of, especially in the fallout of the 2016 election. As Alinsky wrote, chip away at the damage.
