This week, there was a renewed energy across the plains and throughout red enclaves as heartlanders cheered an idea to defund the government “as is.” But there was also trepidation about aligning one’s thought processes and ideology with a liberal who seemed to make a bit of sense. If that wasn’t entertaining enough for flyover folks, one governor told the feds to pound sand.
Illegal Immigration in the Spotlight
The Biden administration has already lapped themselves in illegal border crossings. In July 2021, 200,658 illegal migrants were apprehended. This year, to date, that number is already beyond 209,000. It’s not a good look, and frankly, Texans have had enough nonsense from the Swamp suits. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) went on the Dana Show with Dana Loesch and unloaded his entire clip of frustration, so to speak, against the federal government:
“Our ranches, livestock, people, drugs, cartels, danger… the body trailers down in South Texas — we need to stop that. And we need to stop it now because we’re being invaded. On September 30, the government funding runs out. Well, we’ve got now five and a half months, and we should fight and say, do not fund a government that refuses to secure the border. Let’s have that fight.”
Texas has been doing the heavy lifting on the porous southern border under the direction of Republican Governor Greg Abbott, funding their own border barrier, but that isn’t enough for Roy. He continued a diatribe, “No, you’re not coming into Texas, we’re stopping you. That’s a big statement, and I get that that’s big, but the times call for it.”
And folks in red states and half the Midwest purplish states agreed wholeheartedly. Tessa John in Detroit, MI, jumped on board the Roy train of thought, lauding the conductor, “It’s about time someone had the balls to stand up and say what we’ve been saying for a year! This administration doesn’t want to do their job, then we Americans stop paying taxes!” Ed Saint Sing in Greensboro, NC, agreed: “I like the way he thinks.”
Politically Incorrect
Heartlanders debated whether or not the satirical Bill Maher was actually a card-carrying leftist. Maher used his bully pulpit this week to make sense – and the good folks in the red zones weren’t sure if they could trust him. The talk show host took a stand against the out-of-control political tactic of using cancel culture to punish free thought and speech. Referencing the Oscar awards commotion between host Chris Rock and actor Will Smith, the late-night personality opined, “I know we’re all sick of talking about ‘the slap,’ but I’m sorry, one more thing needs to be said. Comedians have been under attack for quite some time, and I need to stick up for my tribe. The war on jokes must end.” Ah, finally, the voice of reason on the left.
Well, in St. Cloud, MN, Scott Smith had a few very few choice words to offer, “You know that things are bad when Maher becomes a voice of reason.”
Missy Byrnes Schuster in Kansas City, MO, gave the man not so much a nod as a tilt of the head and advised, “He’s definitely quite a way behind those of us that realized this long ago, but if he’s the pied piper who can possibly lead the loons on the left in the direction of sanity. More power to him.”
Maher wrapped up his slap fest on cancel culture with this final thought: “It’s a good thing George Carlin is dead because today, the seven words you can’t say on TV are ‘Jada, can’t wait for G.I. Jane 2.’”

Bless Your Heart – and Go Pound Sand
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is still squawking on behalf of the man who can barely string three coherent words together to make a sentence. This week, the maven of spin blasted the state of Alabama for passing legislation that prohibits transgender conversion therapies for minors and restricts discussions of sexual orientation for tender age children in Alabama public schools. Oh, and it also demands that girls and boys use their own gender bathrooms. Flyover folks are having trouble seeing the need to legislate what is already good manners and common sense.
Of course, Psaki, who is still skulking about the West Wing, went scorched earth. Instead of national news and policy, she pandered to one percent of the US: “Today in Alabama, instead of focusing on critical kitchen table issues like the economy, COVID, or addressing the country’s mental health crisis, Republican lawmakers are currently debating legislation that, among many things, would target trans youth.”
Ah, deflect and blame people who want to keep their children from sexual discussions at school. Governor Kay Ivey bristled and told Psaki and the feds to pound sand: in a gentle, southern womanly way:
“Alabama will continue protecting our kids and not letting out-of-state liberals like Jen Psaki and the Biden White House tell us what to do. Our state is prepared to defend our values. Like I said, we need to focus on properly developing our children into the adults God intended them to be.”
And that brought the house down across flyover states. In the southwest, Nancy Diraison eloquently gave Ivey the girl-power nod for leading the way, “We need champions like her everywhere; we have some, but we need a lot more! We will have them if more and more people speak up loud and clear for the values worth fighting for.”
But hats off to Minnesota’s Jeff Kramer, who wrote the words that many folks practice daily, “I don’t care where liberals live; they will never tell me what to do. As a matter of fact, I will actually go out of my way to do what they don’t like.”
