GOP Convention: A Refreshing Change for Flyover Folk

While the Democrats used their convention to harp on hate and the dark times of Trump, the GOP chose to inspire.

Editor’s Note: While the media and other leftist elites ignore the millions of folks living in “flyover” states, they do so at their own peril; it was this silent majority that put President Trump in the White House. Each week, Liberty Nation gives voice to the hard-working heartlanders who are silent no more.

If last week’s convention performance by the Democrats was a dark, dimly lit Fellini movie set, Republicans brought out vibrant colors, good vibrations, and a field of dreams ready to be realized. It was as different as night and day – and flyover folks reveled in the change of tone.

There were poignant moments throughout – sans the dread and gloom of last week, of course. And what caught the eye of folks in the heartland ran the gamut from achievements on behalf of the Navajo Nation to a Cuban immigrant’s heartwarming embrace of the American dream.

Enchanting

Navajo Nation Vice President Myron Lizer spoke eloquently on the second night of the GOP convention from the spiritual landscape of Shiprock, NM, and folks were transfixed. In the Nation’s unique dialect, Mr. Lizer inspired:

“Our people have never been invited into the American Dream. For years we’ve fought congressional battles with past congressmen and senators that were part of a broken system that ignored us. That is until President Trump took office.”

Another patriot in the Land of Enchantment, Stan Mobley, watched with a keen eye this week, praising Lizer for his vision and “courage to stand for his Diné.” Mobley also spoke with passion about why Trump has already won his vote:

“This is why I pray for another four years of my great President Trump; We actually out produced Saudi Arabia and Russia to become the #1 oil producer in the world. Signed into law, allowing pharmacists to share money saving advice! The fact that used to NOT be allowed is criminal in itself! Think CNN missed that memo? How about 375,000 acres of wilderness protected, no tree huggers were alerted! We’ll never hear about the retro-sentence reductions of nonviolent crimes which 90% of those benefitted are BLACK AMERICANS! (HELLO CNBC) we’re all ears? Increased funding by 14% for BLACK Colleges Jeez! What a racist! Hispanics and Blacks have had employment reach an all-time high! Again, jeez! Such a racist! 7 million jobs created!”

Mobley wasn’t alone in his anger towards the ever-biased drive-by media this week. Nicholas Sandmann was let off his leash and eloquently hammered irresponsible media outlets. After settling for an undisclosed amount in his $275 million defamation suit against the bastion of truth and justice, CNN, Sandmann took the stage at the convention and let fly how his entire 17-year life “changed forever in that one moment” because the “full war machine in the mainstream media revved up into attack mode.”

As awkward as losing the lawsuit was in the first place, CNN aired the speech. Of course, the network’s Joe Lockhart just had to try and get a rise out of folks on Twitter: “I’m watching tonight because it’s important. But i [sic] don’t have to watch this snot nose entitled kid from Kentucky.” Denise Visintine of the Show Me state offered to take Lockhart down memory lane: “That is not how the courts saw it.”

And in Dallas, Lester Mount raised a good point: “We will learn soon if his [Lockhart’s] comments violate the settlement CNN reached for slandering Sandmann and paid him a small fortune.”

Cha-Ching.

Why We Fight for Freedom

Maximo Alvarez, an immigrant whose family fled Communist Cuba as part of Operation Pedro Pan in 1961, delivered a strong message for those believing in a democratic socialist future. Alvarez, founder of Sunshine Gasoline Distributors, was teary-eyed as he recalled his own story:

“I heard the promises of Fidel Castro. And I can never forget all those who grew up around me, who looked like me, who could have been me, who suffered and starved and died because they believed those empty promises. They swallowed the communist poison pill. I may be Cuban born, but I am 100% American. This is the greatest country in the world. I said this before. If I gave away everything I have today, it would not equal 1% of what I was given when I came to this great country of ours: The gift of freedom.”

Alvarez was a hit: A hero, a survivor, an American living the fabled dream so many people seek within our borders. Arizonan Dave Metcalf praised Alvarez’s commitment: “This is a warning from someone who lived through what the Democrats want to do to America. Listen carefully and vote accordingly to avoid a similar fate.”

And as such, Mr. Alvarez deserves the last word this week: “I choose President Trump because I choose America.”
