It has been a week of roller coaster ups and downs, visitations from ghosts of politicians past, and a Democratic Party convention that was akin to a virtual four-night Fellini movie marathon. From the presumptive presidential nominee Joe Biden becoming the lead on the ticket to a plethora of parading liberals invoking the Obama era and that one socialist endorsement for Bernie Sanders to be president, heartlanders could not decide between tuning in for belly laughs or turning it off out of disgust.
Disgust won: According to headlines throughout the week, viewership on cable news stations took a 28% nose-dive from the 2016 DNC opening night show. CBS, ABC, and NBC could not pull out of their death spiral. They lost a whopping 42% of the faithful Democrat viewership.
Most folks in flyover states waited patiently for recaps and then left a trail of liberal tears on social media. New Mexico patriots were less concerned about the past glory days of the party and wondered if any policy issues were being discussed. Rancher Mike Hobbs lobbed a direct question:
“Has ANYONE heard any reference to ‘policy’ proposals from the Dems during any portion of their Saturday Night Live convention? What a cast of buffoons, pedophiles, creeps, and incompetents!”
A neighbor in Folsom, NM, Talonna Rossen McNabb, replied, “Nope…. COVID… BASH TRUMP… COVID … BASH TRUMP.” Even Coloradical, Brad Carlisle, weighed in with, “I think their platform is ‘orange man bad’ and that’s about all of it.”
Then There Was This
“I hereby second the nomination of Senator Bernard Sanders of Vermont for President of the United States of America.” All those Bernie Bros weeping with pride aside, the firebrand freshman, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) caught the attention of several newsies with that line. They were aghast that she did not endorse the former vice president. NBC let this gem fly on Twitter: “In one of the shortest of the DNC, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez did not endorse Joe Biden.”
The winsome, toothy lass was angered and snarked back, calling the network out for “False and divisive narrative.”
A lot of the forgotten electorate snickered in delight. Texan Cindy Long Proctor summed it right up: “So she complains again. Whoopy doodle,” and Chicagoan Becky Davis pondered, “So you are saying NBC is fake news?”
Michelle Obama Gets Fact-Checked By AP
But eyes were riveted on the former first lady, Michelle Obama. “Children are torn from their families and thrown in cages,” she informed the masses. But boy howdy did the Associated Press jump like an arbiter of truth for once, reminding everyone that Obama built and used cages long before Trump knew of them.
Steve Ellis, a pastor from Kentucky, offered to help Mrs. Obama remember about her husband’s disastrous reign:
“Let me remind you about your husband’s presidency. Fast and Furious. Spying on journalists. ObamaCare. IRS scandal. Pallets of cash to Iran. Benghazi. Solyndra. VA scandal. That’s what a disaster actually looks like.”
Funnily enough, no one could bear listening to Joe Biden’s acceptance speech – and no one needed to, as it was painfully sad and dark and didn’t contain much beyond the same old clichés we’ve all heard a thousand times already. Fellini movie marathon, indeed.
