‘Tis the season for giving and sharing, and this year we’ve got a lot to give in the form of lumps of coal. The tradition of giving naughty boys and girls the unpleasant chunk of fossil fuel has been around for centuries, but children are not the only ones deserving of the gift. It’s high time adults were brought in on this ritual as well. Let’s face it, grownups can be much more wicked.
While it’s true that many congressional Democrats are worthy of receiving the shameful symbol for naughtiness, especially those pushing the impeachment hearings, they get enough publicity as it is. Sure, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff are prime suspects. The two Democrats from California have charged full throttle ahead in their efforts to unseat the president. But enough about them. Let’s take a look at some of the other contenders who have been just blips in the spotlight with all the other chaos happening.
Lump of Coal Recipients
Greta Thunberg
, the Swedish teen who so passionately fights for climate control, should receive a nice chunk of coal, not because of her actions, but because of the irony. Santa’s punishing gift to misbehaving children fits perfectly in a couple of ways here. The youngster was nominated for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize and was named Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2019, not for any great accomplishment other than throwing a tantrum and yelling “How dare you!” Why not give the young activist a piece of the natural energy so important to humans and so dreadful to her?
But, I digress.
On with the award winners.
The View: Whoopi Goldberg
The extremely liberal all female talk show is a prime example of flying hormones and goddess syndrome crashing together to provide hours of arguing, catfights, and insults. Earlier this week, Meghan McCain was on the show and treated to the predictable left’s inability to listen to a conservative point of view. As McCain tried to participate in the discussion, co-host Whoopi Goldberg interrupted and then said, “Girl, please stop talking. Please stop talking right now.”
Of course, that did not go over well with McCain, who threatened not to talk throughout the rest of the show, nor on social media. The internet was flooded with complaints against The View, demanding the show be taken off air.
While not really an apology, Goldberg later addressed the audience (and television cameras) and said, “We’re really passionate – this is our jobs. Sometimes it goes off the rails – and it does.”
The Nativity
A giant stocking filled to the brim with coal for the Claremont United Methodist Church in southern California which decided to bring politics fully into the holy holiday. The church’s nativity scene featured the biblical family of Joseph, Mary, and baby Jesus in individual cages to represent the illegal immigrants being separated at the borders.
Antifa
If ever there were a group of people deserving the symbolic smackdown, Antifa is it. However, providing this masked mayhem with anything that could be turned into a weapon is not a good idea. The fascist organization that claims to be anti-fascist is full of rage and self-righteousness. It’s their way or the highway, and if you don’t agree with them, you become a target for their intolerance.
Gun-Grabbers
Those who seek to remove the protections of the Second Amendment would do well to look at the lessons of Venezuela. Citizens fighting tyranny in that country were left with nothing but rocks with which to defend themselves against a corrupt military seeking violence against the nation’s people. Perhaps folks trying to erode our own Constitution think the lumps of coal left behind by Santa Claus will be enough protection.
