Former FBI Director James B. Comey will testify before the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee June 8 as part of the ongoing investigation on alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. A public hearing will be followed by a private session where classified information will be discussed.
On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives Intelligence Committee issued a handful of subpoenas for purposes of identifying individuals named in classified documents:
The House intelligence committee says it is issuing subpoenas for Michael Flynn and Michael Cohen — President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser and Trump’s personal lawyer — as well as their businesses as part of its investigation into Russian activities during last year’s election.
Additional subpoenas for the National Security Agency, the FBI, and the CIA seek information about requests that government officials made to unmask the identities of U.S. individuals named in classified intelligence reports.
The White House immediately circled the wagons, closing communications with the press on all things Russia-related. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, when queried about the investigations has repeatedly stated:
“Inquiries about the Russia investigation must be directed to Trump’s longtime personal attorney, Marc Kasowitz.” It marked the first time the White House had officially acknowledged that outside counsel had been retained.
The much-anticipated hearing has been depicted by elite media as a possible nail in Trump’s coffin—which appears to be wishful thinking for the left. But to add emphasis to the collusion conspiracy, Senator Al Franken (D-MN) and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) released a joint letter written to Comey on April 28, asking for additional information regarding Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ relationship with the Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak. The letter requested a deadline of May 12 for responses, but Comey was fired on May 9 without replying to Senators Franken and Leahy.
President Trump has kept to his party line on Twitter, reassuring the faithful and the hopeful that this “simply is a witch hunt.” We will know, next week, which way the winds will blow in the investigation, but rest assured there will be consequences whether you are the sitting president, immediate past president, or the one promised the job yet failed to rise to the throne.
Americans want answers to the alleged conspiracies swirling around Capitol Hill — to prove a president has done wrong or to simply put the Russian narrative behind and move forward with the running of government.
