The news you need - ready to go!

Welcome to Liberty Nation’s Daily Snapshot. All the top news of the day, the latest polls, and more.

What’s happening in the political sphere – the hot stories making the news today.

  • Former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has finally responded to Tara Reade’s accusation of sexual assault directly. Appearing on Morning Joe, Biden denied any inappropriate action. But has he convinced America he’s telling the truth?
  • House Democrats are working on another Coronavirus relief bill, which they are calling CARES Act 2. So far, it will include billions in aid for workers and nearly $1 trillion for states and cities.
  • Trump will visit Phoenix on May 5 to tour a Honeywell aerospace facility, which has expanded its production to meet demand for N95 masks needed for health care workers to deal with COVID-19.
  • Marc Short, Pence’s chief of staff, told reporters aboard Air Force 2 that the vice president will resume traveling for political events in the near future, adding the president and Pence “look forward to doing that soon.”

The latest polls and trends impacting the United States.

  • The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 34% of likely U.S. voters believe Tara Reade’s accusation that Biden sexually assaulted her in 1993. The likely Democratic presidential nominee has denied the claim, but only 24% think he is telling the truth. A sizable 41%, however, is undecided.
  • 40% now say they or someone in their immediate family has lost their job because of the Coronavirus outbreak. That’s up from 32% a month ago.
  • 82% of American adults believe it will be difficult for recent college graduates to find a job in the current economy, with 43% who say it will be very difficult. This compares to 52% and 16% respectively just two years ago.

Something political to ponder as you enjoy your morning coffee.

Some states have implemented mandatory quarantines for any visitors, while other localities have sought to turn around drivers whose travel they deem nonessential. However, such measures are rife with political and constitutional concerns – and some experts say it’s too little too late to be effective. Can interstate travel bans really stop Coronavirus while essential travel continues? What about airline crews and truck drivers, for example?

A thought for the day from history’s most interesting thinkers.

When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators.
