Special Counsel Jack Smith has filed a petition with the federal district court in DC holding Trump’s criminal trial regarding January 6 to try and stop former President Donald Trump from making the case that he is being politically persecuted and prosecuted. In a motion filed today, December 27, Smith requests of Judge Tanya Chutkan that the “Court should not permit the defendant to turn the courtroom into a forum in which he propagates irrelevant disinformation, and should reject his attempt to inject politics into this proceeding.”
The filing will almost certainly be challenged by Trump’s legal team as interference with its defense strategy.
