The Horowitz Report
With the release of the Horowitz report into operation Crossfire Hurricane, the impeachment of President Trump has taken on a whole new dimension. The report that details multiple abuses of power by the FBI – including altering documents and blatant ommissions – should really be a sperate issue to the impeachment proceedings, yet somehow it has become intertwined.
The president has long claimed that he is the victim of a witch hunt that began with his election win. Much to the faux bemusement of political pundits and supposedly unbiased journalists, he claimed repeated time and time again that the entrenched establishment was out to remove him from office by hook or by crook. In the mind of the increasingly-weary public, the Horowitz report may have just proved his point.
The FBI was determined to begin an investigation into Trump. Heading the operation was agent Peter Strzok, a man whose private messages detailed an animus toward Trump, and clearly stated that he would prevent this presidency. The first and most important question is how could a man with such political bias be tasked with heading an investigation? It is from this shady start that all else spiraled.
On FISA applications, the FBI omitted the fact that Carter Page was acting as a CIA asset in his discussions with the Russians. They outright lied about the veracity of the Steele Dossier and it’s Democrat source. This was a compounded effort to shape a narrative that Donald Trump was working with the Russians in order to steal power.
Make no mistake, this is a multi-pronged attack against the president by an establishment that can’t accept that their chosen candidate lost. Fabrication, lies, spin, and narrative control are merely the tools they use.
What to Watch For
Democrats will continue to paint teh picture that President Trump is a Russian asset. They will suggest that perhaps Trump held up aid to Ukraine at the direct behest of Vladimir Putin. Facts don’t matter anymore, only the story they are trying to craft.
Articles of Impeachment
The House Judiciary Committee voted along party line (23-17) to pass two articles of impeachment: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. These are expected to face a full House vote this coming week.
The abuse of power argument stems from the idea that the president withheld aid money that was earmarked for Ukraine under the expectation that Ukrainian president Zelensky would, in turn, begin an investigation into the Bidens and their dealings with corrupt energy company Bursma Holdings. The obstruction of Congress charge is a little more complex.
At the heart of the charge is the idea that President Trump is refusing to cooperate with the investigation, refusing to provide documentation that House Democrats believe would be valuable to their cause, and has instructed staff not to participate unless forced to do so. Democrats state that, as per the constitution, they are a co-equal branch of government that has the sole power of impeachment, and therefore, should not have to apply to the courts to force cooperation.
Yet this farce only works if the public can get behind it. When the impeachment moves to the Senate for trial, Republicans will choose to either get rid of the whole thing as quickly as possible or use it as an opportunity to embarrass Democrats. Therefore, the opposition party needs to make the hay while the sun still shines on them alone. To do this, they have made one outlandish claim after another in the hopes of planting seeds of doubt in the minds of the American voting public.
Liberty Nation’s Graham J. Noble wrote:
“Most despicably, though, a couple of Democrats – including failed presidential candidate Eric Swalwell (D-CA) – claimed that Ukrainian soldiers were killed because Trump put a hold on military assistance to that country. Russia invaded Ukraine on Barack Obama’s watch, and the former president did nothing about it; he refused to provide Ukraine with weaponry for its own defense. Since then, tens of thousands of Ukrainians have been killed. Attributing any of those deaths directly to any action by President Trump was the lowest point to which Democrats have sunk – and that, in itself, was quite an achievement.”
What to Watch For
While there is still a chance that Democrats may opt to go for some form of censure rather than an impeachment trial, Senate Republicans are planning their strategy in a very public forum. Perhaps in an effort to scare Democrats into going the censure route, the GOP has stressed that they would go so far as to consider calling as witnesses Adam Schiff, Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, and anyone else that could do damage to the narrative. Is it a chance Democrats are willing to take?
