As April showers made way for the planting season across the heartland, several political conversations were struck up at the local cafés, greasy spoons, and drinking establishments. It was an odd mixture of what topics gathered the most opinions. Favorites included another suspicious twist in the Epstein Files, the president of Brazil going nuts on US visa policy, and another progressive trying hard to reach machismo status.
Another Epstein Suicide. What, Me Worry?
Virginia Giuffre, who famously spoke out against Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell after having been trafficked by them as a teen, has taken her own life, as several big-box cable outfits reported. A statement from Giuffre’s family said: “Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking. She was the light that lifted so many survivors. ... In the end, the toll of abuse is so heavy that it became unbearable for Virginia to handle its weight.”
Dena M Paris weighed in from McDonough, GA: “Bulls--t! This poor girl was ‘Unalived’ as it's being referred to now when victims die unsuspectedly in cases involving Epstein, Diddy, etc.”
Who in the heartland really believes she killed herself? In 2009, Giuffre sued Epstein and Maxwell for recruiting her to Epstein’s “sex trafficking ring when she was a minor under the guise of becoming a professional masseuse.”
Giuffre publicly accused Ghislaine of “forcing her to have sex with Prince Andrew.” And just last month, she survived a bad traffic accident, posting on social media yet another open-to-interpretation message:
"This year has been the worst start to a new year, but I won't bore anyone with the details. But I think it's important to note that when a school bus driver comes at you driving 110kmh as we were slowing down for a turn, that no matter what your car is made of, it might as well be a tin can.”
That sparked all kinds of conspiracy theories, from the Crown down to just plain old bad luck. In Oak Creek, WI, Kristin Sprang started it off with her own short message: “That's suspicious AF.”
From Alexandria, MN, Brian Akhavan blamed everyone above a certain tax bracket: “Silenced by the global elite. It always happens.”
Eric Barnes in St Paul, MN, simply replied, “They spelled MURDERED wrong.”
Just a Brazilian Blow Out
On Thursday, Brazil’s radical leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called American visa policies an “abomination.” It appears US officials issued a visa to transgender lawmaker Erika Hilton, identifying the official as a male instead of the desired gender. Lula ordered the Brazilian Foreign Ministry to pen a missive that Brazil was in “disagreement with the interference of an embassy in the passport of a Brazilian woman.”
Deep into brilliancy, Lula went on: “It is Brazil and she, above all, who has the right to discuss what this woman is. It’s science. It’s not Trump’s decree. So, it’s important that you learn to get stirred up too,” Lula said.
Texan Steve Mullins said, “What a twit.”
From Sadieville, KY, Mervyn John Callahan went on to explain that the US is not trans-terrified at all: “The only thing is: Phobia means fear and normal people don't fear cosplayers or pretenders.”
One-Upping Tim Walz
The NFL Draft kicked off Thursday at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI, and flyover folk tuned in to see what college greats were headed to the bigger show. What regional From the Back Forty folks witnessed instead was another governor attempting to appear more manly for a constituency that has gone rogue: Young people and real men who work.
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, recorded himself passing a football a few yards to, well, himself – and then spiking the ball.
It’s a cringe factor that reminded people of Tim Walz when, as a vice presidential candidate, he bungled loading his shotgun on a pheasant hunt with the AP.
Scott Carlson in Lake Geneva, WI, shared his fears: “I’m from Wisconsin and I’m not convinced he wasn’t a girl at some point.”
But the question on everyone’s mind came from Phil Ross in Little River, SC, “Was he wearing his Obama ‘mom’ jeans?”
