When Hillary Clinton denounced half of Donald Trump’s supporters as a “basket of deplorables” and even worse, “irredeemable,” in the heart of the 2016 presidential campaign, it was a moment of crystal clarity for the regular, hard-working, law-abiding citizens who form the backbone of America – the folks in flyover country who have long been held in contempt by the leftist political establishment.
But that was just the political class. Jim Acosta, the grandstanding, nakedly anti-Trump White House reporter for CNN, has now created a similar defining moment for the establishment media.
In a new article published by Variety, Acosta states that supporters of Donald Trump “don’t have all their faculties in some cases — their elevator might not hit all floors.” There was a video accompanying the article – watch here, as Acosta says these know-nothings don’t realize Trump is putting on an act:
Well. At least we should give Acosta credit for honesty. As with Hillary, we’ve known all along what Acosta and his fellow left-wing Trump haters in the media believe about those who deign to support this President. But, as with Mrs. Clinton, Acosta’s statement removes all doubt.
Of course, the one difference between Hillary’s remark and Acosta’s is that he does not stop at condemning the character of Trump supporters. He attacks their mental capacity. He thinks they’re a bunch of stupid, ignorant hicks who don’t know any better. One wonders what the reaction would have been had Acosta said the same thing about uneducated urban Obama voters. And yet, you can be certain CNN will keep sending Mr. Acosta to the White House to make a spectacle of himself – and contend that he’s a legitimately impartial “journalist.”
Acosta, once called a “carnival barker” by former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, has tried to make a name for himself with provocative and haranguing questions obviously designed to draw attention to himself rather than induce real answers. Given his self-promoting style and transparent hostility for the man he is assigned to cover, any legitimate news organization would have long ago pulled the plug on this guy and re-assigned him to another beat.
But CNN is no longer a legitimate news operation. Unlike Fox News and MSNBC, who make no attempt to hide their political preferences, CNN continues to declare itself – via the Voice of God, James Earl Jones – “the most trusted name in news.” That slogan begs a response that brings to mind the internet acronym ROTFL – rolling on the floor laughing.
And it’s a damn shame, for CNN broke new ground on cable TV and made its name in legitimate news reporting, starting with the Gulf War in the early 1990s. But when Trump came along, they lost their, um, faculties.
CNN has now devolved into nothing more than a repository for those afflicted with TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome), including leftist “reporters,” acid-tongued Trump-hating analysts, and sanctimonious Never Trump “Republicans” and “conservatives” like Ana Navarro and SE Cupp, who can spew hatred for this President as well or better than their fellow anti-Trump travelers on the left.
It has become must-not-see TV.
Of course, CNN is hardly alone in their flagrantly biased reporting – or lack thereof – on all things Trump. Brent Bozell’s Media Research Center, which monitors every single news report 24/7/365, has determined that over 90% of the coverage of Trump in the establishment media has been negative. Perhaps even worse than their bias of commission is their omissions – they offer precious little coverage of the revitalized economy, the three million jobs created since Trump was elected, rising consumer and business confidence, or any other development which threatens to place Trump in a positive light.
And you wonder why Donald Trump once called the establishment media “the enemy of the people.”
