New York Attorney General Letitia James has filed a civil suit against Donald Trump, as well as his children, Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka, and several Trump business associates and enterprises. James is seeking, amongst other damages and awards, $250 million, plus a ban on the Trumps from buying commercial real estate in New York for five years. James also hopes to stop the named members of the family from running any business in New York, and she says she's making a criminal referral to the DOJ.
She said:
"We found that Trump, his family, and the Trump Org used fraudulent and misleading asset valuations over 200 times in 10 years on his annual financial statements.
“These statements were then used to obtain hundreds of millions of dollars in loans and insurance coverage."

Donald Trump made posts about the suit on his Truth Social platform. He described James' actions as "[a]nother Witch Hunt by a racist Attorney General" and alleged her actions were politically motivated. Trump said James:
"[F]ailed in her run for Governor, getting almost zero support from the public, and now is doing poorly against Law & Order A.G. candidate, highly respected Michael Henry. I never thought this case would be brought - until I saw her really bad poll numbers."
LN recently covered Ms. James' political difficulties, reporting news from a new poll that showed her opponent, Mr. Henry, "winning with 44.2% of likely voters, while James is at 43%. That doesn't seem like much of a separation. However, the fact that this race appears so tight in a Democratic stronghold should worry the James campaign." The data will soon show if James' suit can move the needle in her direction amongst the 12.8% of undecided voters.
