John Bolton, who served as national security adviser to President Donald Trump during his first term, was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury in Maryland on Thursday, October 16. He is now charged with mishandling classified documents. Sources speaking on condition of anonymity reportedly told CNN that Bolton shared highly classified information with his wife and daughter through email.
In August, the FBI raided Bolton’s home in Maryland and his DC office for classified records he might have held onto from his time in the government. Agents seized multiple documents labeled “classified,” “confidential,” and “secret” during their search – some of which included information about weapons of mass destruction, according to reports.
Bolton is expected to turn himself in as soon as Friday to authorities at the federal courthouse in Greenbelt.
