On July 8, Joe Biden set in motion the White House’s response to the recent Supreme Court opinion that struck down Roe v. Wade by signing an executive order aimed at “protecting access to reproductive healthcare services.” The order compels the Department of Justice to protect “reproductive rights” for women and health care providers across the US – particularly in the as-yet hypothetical case in which a woman is prevented from crossing state lines to seek an abortion. It further allows the Department of Health and Human Services to provide various types of support for women seeking contraceptive medications or other “reproductive healthcare” services.
