Flyover Folk Roast Rosenstein, Mueller, and Carter

by | Jul 27, 2018 | Columns, Narrated News

The whirring sound coupled with clanks and clunks resonating from sea to shining sea has Americans cautiously and questionably peering up from their smartphones and tablets. What is that? Just President Trump jacking the Swamp sump-pump into overdrive.

The Republicans, those who wish to do their job, finally filed five articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein for his actions (and inactions) throughout the special investigation into Russian collusion led by Robert Mueller – who is obviously stymied by the lack of evidence.

Trump has rankled the communist-headed left to a point where even mild-mannered, out of politics, former peanut farmer and president, Jimmy Carter, took a placid swipe at the man and his administration.

In other words, it’s just starting to get good. Grab the popcorn, conservatives, the coming attraction trailers are almost over.

Impeach! But not Trump

The Benton County, Indiana, fair is in full swing, showcasing the rich agricultural history of the prairie passed down for over 200 years. Generations are on hand to cheer for their 4-h youth – kids who have started crops, raised livestock, and worked their horses and ponies for this event. It’s a big deal for rural families.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein

Leaning on the fence is Brad, a fifth-generation cattle and dirt farmer watching his son bathe and ready a steer for show. In between helpful directions to the teenager, he talked a bit about the circus in Washington D.C.:

“So, let me get this straight – Republicans have finally decided enough is enough with the Mueller Witch Hunt and have targeted Rosenstein’s in your face refusal to cooperate with the government, now under Trump? This isn’t a Justice Department, this is a bunch of mid-level to upper level criminals who attempted to rig an election and smear Trump’s reputation. Or am I and most of the country wrong about this? About damn time they got off the A****”

I do love the unvarnished comments of the flyover folks.

Move Along

Across highway 41 sits a mom and pop restaurant, The Farmer’s Table. At noon, the place is hopping, even with the neighboring fair food smells of elephant ears and cotton candy drifting into town to entice the locals.

FBI Director Robert Mueller

Lawrence, 98 years young and sporting denim overalls and a wide-brimmed gardening hat, begins chatting about Mueller’s investigation coming up embarrassingly empty thus far, and the fate of the president:

“It’s clear as day he has nothing. Chasing down other criminal cases, meddling in the Manafort business, and trying to bully Trump or pit his friends and family against. The man needs to wrap it up and go lick his wounds. He lost. Will this end in my lifetime?”

I did point out that he was 98 and weeding his garden in 85-degree temperatures, to which he smiled and said, “I guess I will probably be around when the next guy comes along in 2024.”

America is Better Than any other Country

Fifty years different in age, both Brad and Lawrence were united in believing our government was overreaching and abusing their powers and that, coupled with a multiple million-dollar price tag, the Special Counsel must shut down these futile attempts.

As for the peanut farmer who has claimed the U.S. is no longer the leader of humanitarian efforts around the globe, Lawrence offered this bit of advice: “Jimmy Carter is wrong. We are the only country who cares. He should do what he does best, and that is not advising American presidents. No way.”
