Uber’s Message to Republicans: Welcome to the Resistance

by | Jul 18, 2018 | Narrated News, Politics

Uber customers beware; if you’re a Republican you may be denied a ride. In a growing trend of employees and businesses refusing to serve Trump supporters, and people harassing conservatives in restaurants, Uber becomes the latest to hit the spotlight for unfair treatment of those with differing political beliefs.

Recently, a group of six Republican campaign volunteers were kicked out of an Uber while on their way to North Carolina to campaign for hopeful candidates. Halfway to their destination, the Uber driver pulled over at a gas station and told the group to exit. The driver said he had the right to refuse service to them and reportedly told them, “Welcome to the resistance” as he drove away.

Mary Russell, who initially ordered the service, said, “It was clear based on our mild conservative political talk that the driver realized we were Republicans.” A complaint to the business didn’t do any good. Uber responded with a message stating the driver had been within his rights because Russell had been inappropriate to the driver.

Russell said she looked up Uber’s policy and found nothing that suggested she had been out of line. “This type of discrimination against politically oriented conservatives should be against the policy of Uber,” she said.

Chris Godbey, one of the six riders, agreed with Russell, claiming they had done nothing that warranted such action:

“For an individual to blatantly target Young Republicans for their political outlook is an assault on the freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment. While business owners should have the freedom to provide the service as they see fit, once a contract has been entered, breaking that contract is inappropriate and to do so based on discrimination for political beliefs is unlawful.”

In another instance, a group of Congressional interns had ordered an Uber to take them to a monthly gathering of Trump supporters in Washington D.C.  The driver reportedly noticed the group holding their Make America Great Again (MAGA) hats and denied the service saying, “I can’t do the ride.”

One of the riders, Matthew Handy, is an intern for Rep. Mike Bost (R-IL12) He said, “I am more disappointed that I can’t hold my political beliefs without being scrutinized, being singled out and being downright disrespected.”

Bost was also upset by the interns’ treatment and tweeted his displeasure:

Unfortunately, these occurrences are becoming more common than a liberal’s cry of supposed injustice. What’s truly terrifying is seeing grown adults attack our youth solely because they choose to support our president. Case in point: 16-year-old Hunter Richard was attacked by an adult simply for wearing a MAGA hat. In the video below, you can see the courageous grown man holding Richard’s hat (which he had just snatched from the teen) and then tossing a soda on him at a Whataburger restaurant.

What you don’t hear is the man’s foul language towards the youth. “You ain’t supporting s*it n******” and, “This is gonna go right in my f**king fireplace, b*tch.”

And how does the youth respond? With grace, dignity and intelligence, of course:

“I support my President and if you don’t, let’s have a conversation about it instead of ripping my hat off. I just think a conversation about politics is more productive for the entire whole rather than taking my hat and yelling subjective words to me.”

While liberals run around screaming their heads off with big, fat crocodile tears running down their flushed cheeks, crying out at perceived injustices, our own youth are attacked and degraded simply for enacting their Constitutional rights. Why aren’t the liberals taking to the streets with their picket signs and crying out at the injustice dealt to our own children?
