Breaking: 159 Still Missing After Miami Condo Collapse

Search continues for more than 150 people after Miami residential building collapses.

At least four people are confirmed dead, with 159 still missing after the June 24 collapse of a condo building near Miami Beach in Florida. The search for the missing continues. Champlain Towers, in Surfside, FL., collapsed in the early morning hours, and, as yet, no cause has been determined.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency and the Biden Administration put the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on standby to assist. The 12-story building housed more than 130 condos, 55 of which are reported to have been destroyed. According to a 2020 study, the building – constructed on reclaimed wetlands, had been slowly sinking since the 1990s.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava of Miami-Dade County said 120 residents have been accounted for.
