An initial batch of publicly-released emails from Dr. Anthony Fauci has consumed the media for the last week, but a second batch, which the Informed Consent Action Network (ICAN) reportedly obtained through Freedom of Information Requests over the previous year, are shedding far more light on the thought process of “America’s Doctor.” Why, then, have they been ignored and their distribution censored by Twitter?
ICAN says it made Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including two specific requests for Dr. Fauci’s emails. After the NIH failed to respond, ICAN filed a lawsuit against the agency on June 29, 2020. The NIH then agreed to release the information. According to ICAN, the FOIA request included:
- All emails sent by Anthony Fauci between November 1, 2019 and the present that include the term Moderna or mRNA-1273 in any portion of the email.
- All emails sent by Anthony Fauci between November 1, 2019 and the present that include the terms SARS-CoV, COVID, COVID-19, or coronavirus in any portion of the email.

On February 22, 2020, Dr. Fauci approved a message stating, “The vast majority of people outside of China do not need to wear a mask. A mask is more appropriate for someone who is infected than for people trying to protect against infection.”
On April 3, 2020, Fauci wrote: “As I mentioned to Bill [Gates] yesterday evening, I am enthusiastic about moving towards a collaborative and hopefully synergistic approach to COVID-19 on the part of NIAID/NIH, BARDA and the BMGF [Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation].”
On May 5, 2020, despite publicly warning on CNN that there may not be enough ventilators a while earlier, Fauci wrote: “You are correct in that there is a more recent tendency to use ventilators only as a very last resort since oxygenation rather than ventilation appears to be key to recovery.”
On February 7, 2020, Dr. Fauci was sent an internal NIAID communication showing that many SARS-CoV-2 virus patients did not originate from a wet market. Fauci responded, saying, “Very interesting!!”
Twitter’s Reaction
[bookpromo align=”left”] On Thursday, June 3, ICAN announced on Twitter that it would be releasing the emails. “The Informed Consent Action Network (ICAN) is dropping 3,000 new pages of FOIA’d Fauci emails TODAY, providing further insight into Anthony Fauci’s actions on Covid, vaccine safety and more,” the tweet read. The ICAN account was swiftly suspended for “spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to Covid-19.”
When two prominent media outlets released the original batch of Dr. Fauci’s emails, their accounts were not suspended. At the time of writing, the ICAN account has since been reinstated.
Of the original email batch, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) said, “The emails paint a disturbing picture, a disturbing picture of Dr. Fauci, from the very beginning, worrying that he had been funding gain-of-function research… knows it to this day, but hasn’t admitted it.”
Whether these latest releases will have quite the same impact is unknown, but, notably, up to 24 hours after their publication, no major news outlet had mentioned them.
