The Magical Goose
In what may go down in history as one of the poorest political decisions ever made, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi bit the bullet and caved in to the progressive extremists in her party, announcing that the Democrats would be launching an impeachment investigation. Perhaps, with the news of a whistleblower ready to go on the record that President Trump had extorted Ukraine with a quid pro quo offer, the Dems would finally be rid of their turbulent president?
Sadly for them, the president released the “damaging” transcript just one day later, exposing the impeachment attempt as a busted flush. Never one to let a good crisis go to waste, the Trump campaign was quick to capitalize on the over-eager Pelosi decision.
As Liberty Nation’s Leesa K. Donner writes:
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi barely had time to leave the stage after announcing impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump before the sound of his Campaign 2020 cash machines starting dinging. Indeed, the political rapid response teams have been raking in the dough at an alarming pace, making Pelosi the chief fundraiser for a man she apparently loathes.”
Apparently, in just 48 hours, the Trump campaign managed to raise a stunning $13 million off the back of Pelosi’s announcement. Coupled with the latest polls showing a majority of Americans have no interest in impeaching the president, the Democrats have to be asking themselves how deep this self-dug hole goes.
What to Watch For
The fact is, Pelosi can’t risk pulling back on this no matter how much she may want it all to go away. She is being pushed by AOC and the squad to continue and would have to admit that she acted rashly and unprofessionally if she chose to stop it. This is a Pandora’s box that can never be closed and from which hope has already fled.
Biden Overboard
Never underestimate how desperate political parties are to gain power. Whether it is a principle or a person, they are quite willing to sacrifice anything on their way to the top. It looks like Joe Biden might just be the next casualty in the quest. When Nacy Pelosi announced that the Democratic Party was opening an impeachment investigation into possible corruption involving Ukraine, she must have known that it was only a matter of time before questioning eyes turned to the former VP’s activities; and more importantly, the activities of his son.
Liberty Nation’s Tim Donner cuts to the heart of the matter, writing:
“Hunter was named a director of the largest energy company in Ukraine, Burisma Holdings, which enriched his bank account by some $50,000 per month. The problem is, he had zero experience or expertise in energy – he had been primarily a lobbyist for the gaming industry. But this is where the rubber really meets the scandalous road: as Joe Biden stated proudly and publicly, Ukraine’s chief prosecutor was fired just as he was closing in on – wait for it again – Burisma Holdings. Joe Biden claims he has never talked to his son about those business deals, but Hunter has said he did.”
When President Trump spoke with President Zelensky and asked him to look into corruption allegations, it sparked a series of events culminating in calls for impeachment. But to get there – or anywhere near there – the investigation will first have to deal with the damaging activities of the Biden family. You can’t get to one without going through the other.
It is an extreme longshot that Article of Impeachment will actually be launched, yet part of the process will involve an investigation that includes the apparently sordid history of the Bidens. Is Pelosi willing to sacrifice Biden for such a longshot?
What to Watch For
As questions mount over what has happened in Ukraine, expect President Trump to make political capital out of it. But the real damage might just come from members of his own party. How long will competitors be able to resist gaining a few points in the polls by calling out Joe Biden?
Washington Whispers & Other Juicy Tidbits
Be on the lookout for:
- The RNC may just call for another investigation to look into Biden’s dealings with Ukraine. If the committee can convince Republican lawmakers to back their play, it’s going to be fireworks on Capitol Hill.
- As Facebook announces that it will not be fact-checking politicians, news outlets may be starting to wonder if the social media giant is looking to put them out of business. Will Zuckerburg ask for protections from Congress as he embarks on this full-frontal media assault?
