The Clinton House of Cards Begins to Topple

by | Jan 8, 2018 | Politics, Trending Now

Amid calls from President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans, the heat is back on the FBI investigation into the Clinton Foundation pay-to-play politics scandal that has lain semi-dormant since 2016.  The probe dates to when Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State (2009-2013) in the Obama administration.

Most federal felonies have a statute of limitations shelf life of five years, and 2018 is fast approaching the deadline for prosecution of wrongdoing.

Well-Timed?

Is the ability to punish HRC fanning the flames at Quantico in preparation for a solid roasting as they are now able to gather evidence without political interference? For years, the investigation was shoved to the back burner as Mrs. Clinton trotted around both coasts running for president, while our own Justice Department, under tarmac chatting Loretta Lynch, creating policies such as using the term “matter” instead of the inflammatory, albeit legitimate one, “investigation.”

Does this remind anyone of that 1990s reworking of the dictionary when then-President Bill Clinton queried, “that depends on what the definition of is, is.”  Yeah, those wily Clintons and their cronies are masters of manipulating words to their advantage.

The “matter” at hand

Regardless of swirling controversies of political capital for sale, the Foundation is regarded in some charitable circles as legitimate. In their eyes, the good works are not in question:

“The Clinton Foundation has raised billions of dollars since it was formed and receives high marks from philanthropy watchdog organizations. But because of its global donor base and Clinton’s former position as the United States’ top diplomat, it also faced questions about contributions from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Algeria.”

Yet critics argue that the source of financing is more than a little dubious; especially if you follow the money and calendar of events reported over the past several years:

“For years, news media from The New York Times to The Daily Caller have reported countless stories on donations to the Clinton Foundation or speech fees that closely fell around the time of favorable decisions by Clinton’s State Department.”

In a July 2017 letter to the Justice Department from House Judiciary Committee, Chairman Bob Goodlatte, (R-VA) and other committee members, called for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate serious allegations against the Clinton Foundation including Uranium One, accepting cash donations for political party favors, and tax improprieties.  Hey, Al Capone was taken out by messing with the IRS, and frankly, if Mrs. Clinton sees jail time for tax evasion or selling state assets, the masses will cheer either way.  The “lock her up” mantra has not dissipated one bit, and her detractors seemingly need to witness HRC in an orange jumpsuit and heavy bracelets bound to the big house to satisfy their appetite.

How Much is Enough?

Maybe what we have with a reinvigorated investigation by our Justice Department, whether under pressure from an expiring statute of limitations or just doing the right thing for the right reasons, is the perfect storm for soothing the savage beast of public opinion.

There is no election, no power or world domination, and nowhere for this (IMHO) corrupt family to hide.  And if HRC is finally called to task, let’s hope the punishment is swift, severe, and allows us to move on with the governing of our country.
