Emotional Chief of Staff John Kelly Reacts to Fredrica Wilson

A man who knows what it feels like to lose a son in battle stepped to the microphone in the White House Press Briefing Room today in response to Rep. Fredrica Wilson’s (D-FL) condemnation of a call made by the president to the wife of a fallen soldier. In particular, an emotional Kelly said that there’s nothing one can really say that makes it any more bearable to handle such loss. When a serviceman is killed, Kelly said he told President Trump that should he have the courage to call the family of a fallen soldier, he should tell them that they died “doing what they loved” because he knows this to be true from his many years of military service. Quietly, but with great dignity, General John Kelly ripped into Wilson’s attempt to make headlines over a dead soldier by criticizing the president. Watch this:

Kelly is the most equipped member of the Trump administration to speak authoritatively on this topic due to his personal loss. He also has another son on his fifth tour of duty in Afganistan. The Chief of Staff also mentioned that when his son was killed back in 2010, he never received such a call of condolence from President Barack Obama. He said that wasn’t a criticism, simply a fact.
