Flyover Folk Horrified at New York’s Abortion Laws

The recent decision by the state of New York to allow abortions up until birth has thrown folks across this country into unparalleled grief. Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo has just signed into law the Reproductive Health Act, which brings significant changes to their landmark law that legalized abortion 49 years ago.

Democrats celebrated with the fanfare of a winning Lotto ticket holder – as the World Trade Center,  Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the Kosciuszko Bridge, and the Alfred E. Smith Building in Albany were lit up in pink. Cuomo, beaming at what his state had done, gushed: “I am directing that New York’s landmarks be lit in pink to celebrate this achievement and shine a bright light forward for the rest of the nation to follow.”

But that’s not going to happen in the Heartland, where people embrace and respect life, and find this latest assault on tiny humans reprehensible.

Desperate for Family

“Why? When so many families want children and can’t have them is this a solution for an unwanted pregnancy. This is simply murder,” Kristen, a young mother from Terre Haute, Indiana, lamented on social media. Eric from Washington state questioned, “Pink, why pink when they should be lit red for the blood of innocents they will gleefully spill.”

The commenters across all platforms were aghast with incredulity that an American state would rejoice at the prospect of ending a life.

Praise for Those Who Stood in Defiance

Carol Considine Piccione wondered, “If some one kills a pregnant woman and the baby also dies it’s considered a double murder! Yet full term abortion is now legal? REALLY? Outrageous!” And Marilyn Smith asked, “why are pastors/ministers/preachers not speaking out about this? are they also in bed with the devil?” A good question – but New York’s Catholic contingency was not silent. Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, was incensed:

“Our governor and legislative leaders hail this new abortion law as progress. This is not progress. Progress will be achieved when our laws and our culture once again value and respect each unrepeatable gift of human life, from the first moment of creation to natural death.”

Small business owner Jon Speed, proprietor of The Book Scout in Syracuse, voiced his opinion loud and clear by closing his business for the day. “It is a day of mourning in New York,” he declared. “In honor of the thousands of babies that will die in the years to come, we shall not be collecting sales tax for this tyrannical government today. We will on other days, under duress, but not today.”

A fetus at 40 weeks.

As you can imagine, this man will reap rewards from those who find his protests full of valor and selflessness.

Donna Holden, called Speed a Godsend, adding, “May God bless you and all who choose to follow suit.” But Jeff Monks chose to send a different message, “Mr. Speed: let the readers know your website address I assume we can patronize your business online? I’m out of state so NY will not be able to collect sales tax from me.”

Speak for Those Who Cannot

As with any crisis of the conscience, heroes will emerge – regular people of valor rise up when those who are elected to do the will of the people refuse to honor their values. Mr. Speed is one such man, who stands for the most innocent and vulnerable of our nation as their existence isn’t welcomed.

How is this cause for revelry? How indecent can you be, Mr. Cuomo, to illuminate your state to honor immoral legislation that sends babies to be murdered?
