Any conservative will tell you the nasty names they’ve been called time and again by those on the left. There’s the obvious “deplorable” label which most of us have embraced as humorous. Then there are the standard sexist, xenophobe, islamophobe labels as well as the long-standing homophobe. But perhaps the most persistent accusation from the left is that conservatives are racist.
This is a textbook example of psychological projection which places one’s undesirable feelings onto another rather than acknowledging them as their own. And the left is guilty of this more often than not. How do I know this?
Because as Editorial Director of LibertyNation.com – a news and commentary website – I have watched our black conservative author take more invectives from the left than any other member of our staff – by far. Here’s his love tap from a leftist commenter just yesterday:
“For a black man to identify with the current conservative movement in America is like a German jew of the 1930s identifying with the national socialist party. Identifying with the oppressors does not make them any less vicious or more just.”
When another person responded that he found the man’s comment inexcusable and “slandering” — the commenter responded with,” Certainly no insult desired…”
You just can’t make this stuff up.
All this love from the left has long since moved past the point of appalling, to commonplace. Of course, anyone who runs a website knows that people can and do say the damnedest things. However, it’s nothing short of dumbfounding that these so-called liberals feel they can say anything to and about one of our authors simply because he’s black. This comes despite explicit directives to the commentariat that, “We do not suffer loonies and haters, but we encourage wise and perceptive readers to visit, engage in civil discourse and let freedom ring.” Perhaps some of those on the left can’t read or just feel that because they are morally superior to the rest of us, the rules don’t apply to them.
Black Conservatives are a Most Maligned Group
Two of our authors recently wrote on this very subject in an article entitled The Life and Times of a Black Conservative. The piece was an honest dialogue that explored the issue. They began with:
“The narrative that is being pushed by the left is that conservatives are intolerant racists and bigots that make life a living hell for sexual, religious and ethnic minorities. However, dissidents are popping up everywhere telling another story. They tell that it is often the other way around, that conservatives are often the most tolerant and that the place to look for hatred and bigotry is on the left.”
Well, how about that. Conservative and tolerant aren’t exactly two words you see in the same sentence very often. Meanwhile, it seems that this racism doesn’t just come from the white left but the black left as well. In that article, author Jeff Charles recounted that much of the vitriol he’s received from leftists came from those within the black community because he has the audacity to be a conservative:
“When sharing my opinions and articles, I have been told that I’m not really a member of the black community and have been called an Uncle Tom. One blog quoted one of my articles and referred to me as a “slave catcher,” which I thought was amusing.”
Bless him for having a sense of humor, though I suppose it’s a must if you are getting hammered every which way but loose. This article is not a simply a defense of Mr. Charles but is a rebuke to those on the left who are in denial about their own racism. As is evident from the comment below to our friendly neighborhood Nazi-man, Mr. Charles is entirely capable of defending himself:

I thank you for your hilarious response to my piece. You’re absolutely right of course, as a black man, I am morally obligated to vote for and support the left despite the fact that the cities in which most of my fellow black Americans are faring the worst are being run by Democrats. I should throw my energy into helping the side that has perpetuated a false victimhood narrative that implies that blacks in America cannot hope to achieve success because…racism!
I should never have fooled myself into believing that personal responsibility and a refusal to depend on the government are more desirable than demanding that our elected officials come to my rescue while I sit back and label them as sheet-wearing bigots. How dare I reject an ideology that has kept so many black Americans poor. I should be ashamed of myself for believing that the almighty government is the savior of all who are “oppressed.”
Why? Because I am a black man, dammit. And that’s not how I’m supposed to think!
You’re right — I’m no better than German Jews who sided with the Nazi’s. Everyone knows that the Republicans are plotting their own version of a holocaust against black people, and I’m helping them! It’s uppity blacks like me who make things hard for Democrats who try so hard to make us revel in our victim status.
Thank you for enlightening me as to how I’m supposed to think as a black man. I’m so overcome with gratitude that I don’t know whether to say “seig heil,” or “I’s be mighty grateful for yo’ words, massa.”

Doesn’t that just say it all? Of course, conservative racists do exist — but more and more it seems that many authentic racists actually reside on the left. And it is high time we called them out instead of the other way around.
