Man Convicted for Raping 12-Year-Old Girl

Gwinnett County, GA

Ruben Alvarado, a 24-year-old illegal immigrant, was sentenced to 25 years to life after being convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl. The case came before authorities after the victim’s mother and brother reported the abuse. Alvarado’s grandmother had been the victim’s babysitter and when the brother grew suspicious, he pretended to be the young girl during a text messaging session with the child rapist. “The brother posed as his 12-year-(old) sister in a conversation with the defendant, in which the defendant was trying to entice the child to commit sex acts,” prosecutors said.

This atrocity took place in 2015, but because of the immigration laws of the time, Alvarado was not held over on an ICE detainer. This was “due to a presidential directive under the previous administration that immigration detainers could not be placed prior to conviction,” said Deputy Shannon Volkodav, spokeswoman for the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.

“Consequently, Alvarado was in custody on charges of rape and aggravated child molestation for only a few weeks,” Volkodav said. “This now-convicted rapist and child molester who is in the country illegally was released back into the community on bond because federal laws at that time permitted it.”

Sheriff Butch Conway was “dismayed” to find out the defendant was released back into society and potential unsuspecting young victims:

“It’s shocking that a child predator was released into an unsuspecting community simply because federal laws that should protect them were not in place at the time of his arrest. One can only hope he didn’t victimize other children while he was free on bond. Fortunately, the 287(g) program operating under the current administration allows us to place a detainer under these circumstances, which greatly helps us protect our community from these child predators.”

On March 22, a jury convicted Alvarado on one count of rape and one count of child molestation, though they acquitted him on one count of statutory rape. He was sentenced to life with the first 25 years to be spent in prison.

 Man Kills Wife and Daughter with a Machete

Miami Gardens, FL

Noel Chambers

Noel Chambers, 57, is suspected of killing his wife and daughter with a machete just days after being asked for a divorce. Police responded to a possible assault call at the Harris’ home and found a gruesome scene. Lorrice Harris, Chamber’s wife, was discovered on the back porch. Another body, that of 10-year-old Shayla, was found in a bedroom inside the apartment, killed by the same weapon. Shanalee Chambers, 29, was still alive when authorities found her, and was listed in critical condition. The suspect was nowhere to be found.

Harris went to Jamaica about ten years prior, and helped Chambers migrate to the U.S. Up until the homicides, there had not been any reports of violent behavior. However, he had been described by friends and family members as oftentimes controlling. It was said that he would try to isolate his wife from her family. Chambers is a large man, known by the nickname of “Massive” by acquaintances in Jamaica and Miami. Law enforcement fear he may flee to his native country to elude capture.

Miguel Martinez

Illegal Immigrant Arrested on 100 Sex Crime Charges

Baton Rouge, LA

Miguel Martinez, 44, is in the U.S. illegally and was previously deported according to authorities. Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry announced the arrest of the suspect, claiming more than 100 counts of sex crimes. He said the suspect is a registered sex offender in California and that something has to be done about migrants coming into the states and committing such crimes.

In a tweet, Landry said “Illegal immigration has real-life consequences – countless numbers of needless crime victims, including too many Louisiana families and children. It’s time to join @POTUS in demanding action on our Southern Border. #BuildTheWall.”

Martinez was arrested on:

• 100 counts of possession of pornography involving juveniles under the age of 13.
• One count of production under the age of 13.
• One count of sexual batter of a juvenile under the age of 13.
