Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has officially suspended his campaign to win the Republican nomination for president just two days before the New Hampshire primary. “I am today suspending my campaign,” DeSantis said in a video release. He continued:
“Trump is superior to the current incumbent, Joe Biden. That is clear. I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee, and I will honor that pledge. He has my endorsement because we can’t go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear.”
On Tuesday, January 23, the GOP primary will take place in New Hampshire with only two contenders on the ballot, former President Donald Trump and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. While almost all polls give Trump a solid lead, Haley was expected to perform well in a three-person race. How the DeSantis withdrawal and endorsement will impact the final vote share is about to become the most significant political question of the moment.
