In a delicious moment of hypocrisy, Alec Baldwin’s wife Hilaria was exposed as fraudulently promoting a Spanish background. For more than a decade, complete with a fake accent and false origin story, she has pretended she is from Spain instead of Boston. Why the burlesque? In the uber-left circles Baldwin travels, think of how many status points she gains from being a Spanish immigrant rather than a rich white lady. Hillary now joins the ranks of Rachel Dolezal and Shawn King – both fake black people – who have tried to gain unearned racial and cultural credit.
Hilaria’s falsa fachada tumbled down after a tweet proclaiming, “You have to admire Hilaria Baldwin’s commitment to her decade long grift where she impersonates a Spanish person.”

That tweet thread yields a delicious presentation of Mrs. Baldwin’s fraud, including a fake accent and pretending to forget how to say the word cucumber in English, her native tongue. When unguarded, she sounds like a Valley Girl, which is what sparked the effort to unmask her fraud. A graduate of Cambridge School of Weston in Massachusetts, she is listed in the senior yearbook as “Hillary Hayward-Thomas.” It’s unclear exactly when her false origin story emerged, but make no mistake, this is no mistake.
Both Baldwins took to social media to defend the proposition that she is not fake and doubled down on the lie. Hillary said, “I spent a lot of my childhood in Spain. My nuclear family lives in Spain and has lived there for a long time.” As it turns out, her family does live in Spain – her parents retired there when she was in her late 20s and began dating Baldwin. Her parents are a lawyer and a Harvard professor, who are neither Spanish nor Hispanic and speak with no foreign accent.

Giving the lie to the proposition that this could be some misunderstanding, she said she moved “here by myself when I was 19.” “From?” the interviewer asked. Baldwin replied, “From — my family lives in Spain. In Mallorca.” A good lie — not direct but with the same result, giving the viewer the false impression she had lived in Spain and moved to the United States from that country. Mrs. Baldwin, then Ms. Hayward-Thomas, moved to New York not from Mallorca but from Boston, where she spent her entire life, except when traveling or on vacation.
Conservative commentator Ed Driscoll had this to say at Instapundit:
“Race imposters are never conservatives. It’s always the fringe kook left that does things like this. Why isn’t anyone asking why? Has there ever been a conservative person who impersonated another race in order to be liked or to be more acceptable to their community? Who are the true racists in this country?”
In a pre-internet society, she would probably get away with it. Well, let’s be honest, she’s lefty, and her husband is a leftist celebrity hero for mocking Donald Trump regularly on Saturday Night Live, so she still gets a pass. When you’re a liberal star, you can say whatever you want and never get canceled. Alec has had problems with anti-gay slurs and insults but pays no price for his pleasure. And the leftist hypocrisy abounds.
