BREAKING: Jan. 6 Committee Votes for Trump Criminal Referal

Democrat-led committee urges DOJ to prosecute the former president.

The House Jan. 6 Committee today ( Dec. 19) voted to ask the Department of Justice to bring criminal proceedings against former President Donald Trump for his role in the riot on Capitol Hill last year. “We have every confidence that the work of this committee will help provide a roadmap to justice,” Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) said, announcing the news.

The charges the committee is recommending include conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstructing an official proceeding, and aiding an insurrection. While these accusations hold no formal legal weight, the members believe they have evidence that will convince the DOJ under Attorney General Merrick Garland to file criminal charges.

The seven Democrats and two anti-Trump Republicans who make up the committee each presented a separate part of their findings before taking an official vote to move forward with their recommendations.

As reported by Fox News, the committee also “referred several GOP House lawmakers, Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., and Scott Perry, R-Pa., to the House Ethics Committee for not complying with subpoenas.”

Liberty Nation will have a full analysis of the proceedings and ramifications available on our morning briefing tomorrow.
