Monday, June 22
President Trump had no engagements or public events on Monday. Late that evening, he tweeted his displeasure at the destruction and removal of statues and hinted that he intended to take measures to protect them: “Numerous people arrested in D.C. for the disgraceful vandalism, in Lafayette Park, of the magnificent Statue of Andrew Jackson, in addition to the exterior defacing of St. John’s Church across the street. 10 years in prison under the Veteran’s Memorial Preservation Act. Beware!”
Tuesday, June 23
The president traveled to Arizona for several events. He first took part in a border security briefing in Yuma, before visiting the newly-constructed border wall at San Luis. To mark the completion of 200 miles of new border barrier, Trump signed a plaque attached to the wall. Later, the president traveled to the Dream City Church in Pheonix, where he delivered remarks at a “Young Americans” event. During his address, the president told his audience: “The left-wing mob is trying to demolish our heritage so they can replace it with a new repressive regime that they alone control.”
He went on to warn them: “And if you give power to people that demolish monuments and attack churches and seize city streets and set fire to buildings, then nothing is sacred, and no one is safe.”
Wednesday, June 24
On Wednesday, Trump met at the White House with the president of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda. That evening, the president took to his favorite social media platform to lament the inaction of some states in response to the destruction of statues and monuments: “Very sad to see States allowing roving gangs of wise guys, anarchists & looters, many of them having no idea what they are doing, indiscriminately ripping down our statues and monuments to the past. Some are great works of art, but all represent our History & Heritage, both….
“….the good and the bad. It is important for us to understand and remember, even in turbulent and difficult times, and learn from them. Knowledge comes from the most unusual of places!”
Thursday, June 25
President Trump and the First Lady traveled to the Korean War Veterans Memorial for a wreath-laying ceremony. After that, the president set off for campaign events in Wisconsin. That evening, during an interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity – which drew a record viewing audience for the network – the president provided a very indirect answer to a question about his second-term agenda. For this, he came in for much criticism.
Friday, June 26
The president on Friday hosted a meeting of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board in the East Room of the White House. Later in the day, he departed Washington, D.C. for New Jersey.
