- The majority of U.S. states quickly battened down the hatches in conformity with the newly-fashionable Coronavirus hysteria, but turmoil, finger-pointing, and an avalanche of lawsuits lie ahead as public opinion turns against the arbitrary rules imposed across the nation without a shred of consent from those who matter – the people.
- Senate Democrats are calling for an investigation of the firing of Michael Atkinson, the former inspector general of the Intelligence Community. Attorney General William Barr backed the president’s decision to dismiss Atkinson, infuriating Trump’s political opponents.
- The bailout of small businesses crushed by the Coronavirus shutdown has already dried up, and a fight is brewing on Capitol Hill, as additional funding stalls while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) hides in her fabulously expensive kitchen, eating ice cream that most Americans cannot afford.

- Seventy-two percent of Americans believe China is as much to blame as the U.S. government for the spread of Coronavirus in America. 29% say the outbreak was ‘completely China’s fault.’ Only 14% of Democrats put the blame solely on China, however. Perhaps China has far more influence than Russia over the American electorate and media – but you decide.
- Fear is a powerful thing. According to a recent Pew Research Center poll, a staggering 73% of Americans believe the worst ravages of Coronavirus are yet to come.
- Only 20% of Americans said yes when asked if they would “return to your normal activities, including interacting with people in public.” Luckily, it took only three percent to fight off the Brits, so maybe the nation will survive, once again, in the face of overwhelming timidity. Still, it’s entirely possible that the poll is inaccurate and most people honestly just want to return to normal.

A Coronavirus shutdown is a long time in politics. It feels like only yesterday that reporters were questioning why the president would not demand a complete cessation of all human activity across the entire country. Just a week or so later, when Trump claimed absolute authority to reopen the country, his detractors discovered a new-found affection for the principle of states’ rights. Now that the president’s plan for reopening America yields to the states the final decision on how quickly to move, Trump’s media critics, and others, are implying that he is avoiding responsibility and leaving states to fend for themselves. It’s enough to make a Founding Father’s head spin.
