Will Dems’ Explosive Strategy on Republican Candidates Backfire?

The cynical funding tactic is starting to look like a bad bet.

The Democrats are willing to go to the mat to maintain power. Sure, they have questionable tactics, as do all political entities, but some might say they have taken a dangerous turn on the road to ensuring Swamp dominance. Leftist organizations, committees, and, oddly enough, a campaign or two have attempted to tilt the playing field by funding those they deem extreme Republican candidates — MAGA-spouting, Trump-following folks. In Democrat minds, that spells easy to beat. But what if the supposed extremists win? Now you find yourself in a pickle, lefties.

Extreme Republican Candidates for the Win?

Representative Dean Phillips (D-MN) is one of, well, a lot of angry candidates seeing their money flow toward the opposition. He tweeted: “I’m disgusted that hard-earned money intended to support Democrats is being used to boost Trump-endorsed candidates, particularly the far-right opponent of one of the most honorable Republicans in Congress, [Michigan Rep. Peter Meijer].”

Representative Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) asked the fundamental question: “What happens if they actually do win? Then we inadvertently helped elect, you know, the people that will bring an end to the institutions we’re trying to protect. Right now, we’re in a fight for our democracy.” Perhaps the “extreme Republicans” know we are a constitutional republic? But I digress.

And in keeping with the party philosophy of omnipotent influencing, Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) told Politico in July, “I just really worry about promoting election deniers and this idea that we’re going to be able to control what voters want at the end of the day.” As a result, some elements of the electorate may be asking who the party of crazy truly is.

The more uphill the battle, the more indignant campaigns have become. “I believe Democrats should focus on helping Democrats win,” said Rebecca Katz, adviser to John Fetterman’s Senate campaign in Pennsylvania. Fetterman finds life difficult after a May stroke and he has been unable to communicate without a closed-captioned setup. But Katz let it fly: “In this year of all years, why make that gamble in a Republican primary? It just seems like their priorities are out of whack.” And it sounds as if a few shekels dropped into Fetterman’s coffers would have gone a long way in mending that campaign’s gaping wounds.

Meddling in elections is a pricey endeavor: By most accounts, it appears the left has spent more than $53 million to boost “far-right” Republican candidates. That’s a financial gamble that could cause a few problems when it comes to raising money for the 2024 general election, if loyal party Democrats feel their resources were squandered on a pipe dream — or a win-the-battle, lose-the-war scenario.

It All Comes Down to This

As strategic plans go, this one has all but run its course. The final report on whether it works or fails spectacularly will come when the polls close on Nov. 8. Down to the last two races on the Democrats’ hit list is the competition in New Hampshire between Senator Maggie Hassan and her Republican opponent, retired Army Brigadier General Don Bolduc. How’s it going? Liberty Nation’s managing editor, Mark Angelides, summed it up succinctly:

“The Senate Majority PAC — which is closely tied to Chuck Schumer — spent an estimated $3 million plus on trying to get Don Bolduc as the competitor against incumbent Senator Maggie Hassan. They figured that Bolduc would be an ‘easy beat’ and they could save cash in the long run for other races; unfortunately for the all-too-generous Dems, New Hampshire appears not to rate the GOP candidate as quite the lost cause they do. The polling aggregate puts him within three points of Hassan; that’s real danger territory. More so, because Dems labeled him an extremist … and they just may be responsible for sending him to the Big Show.”

Come January 2023, when the news hounds pick up the scent of MAGA trolling the halls of Congress, who will be able to deny helping to get those “extreme” Republican candidates into seats of ultimate power? A dangerous strategy, indeed.
