The Census results are in, and it is not looking good for the Democrats. The data revealed that a colossal number of Americans moved from blue states to red states over the past decade. This trend could have massive ramifications for the Democratic Party, which holds the House of Representatives by a razor-thin margin. But a closer look reveals that those on the left might have anticipated this new reality, and their recent push for one of their favorite policies might be an indicator of how they plan to maintain a political advantage.
Democrats Aren’t Going to Be Happy
The results of the latest U.S. Census are not favorable to the Democrats’ chances of maintaining electoral power. Several blue states lost seats in the House of Representatives. USA Today reported:
“Texas will gain two more congressional seats and seven states will each lose a seat as a result of population shifts recorded in the 2020 Census, the Census Bureau said Monday in the release of its first round of data from the survey taken last year.
“In total, seven seats shifted affecting 13 states. Colorado, Florida, Montana, North Carolina and Oregon each gained one seat in addition to Texas. California, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia each lost one seat.”
The population shift will likely impact the 2022 midterm election and make it even more difficult for the Democrats to retain control of the House, where they outnumber Republicans by only six seats. “States that lost seats were mostly Democratic, but consist of more close battleground states. California, Illinois, and New York were solidly in Biden’s column; Michigan and Pennsylvania were closer swing states with slim margins for the president. Trump prevailed in Ohio and West Virginia,” according to USA Today.
Time for Open Borders
The Democrats’ aggressive push for open-borders policies indicates that they might have already figured out that the Census results would not work in their favor. As more Americans flee blue states for conservative-leaning areas of the country, anyone could see that the proverbial writing was on the wall.
Even on the campaign trail, Joe Biden made sweeping promises for immigrants – legal and otherwise – that would entice more migrants to attempt to gain entry into the United States. Indeed, it is the reason why the nation experienced the surge that has created the current migrant crisis at the southern border.
If Biden manages to achieve his goal of giving 11 million illegal aliens a pathway to citizenship, then it could give the Democrats a sizable electoral advantage in the future. Moreover, if his administration imports more immigrants, it will further increase the Democrats’ ability to win elections.
Still, success is not a sure thing in this case – there seem to be enough dissenting Democrats who are not willing to vote for such extreme measures. Either way, the clock is ticking and the left has about a year and a half to ram through this type of legislation. Assuming that the Republicans don’t manage to seize defeat from the jaws of victory in 2022, those who don’t want unfettered immigration might have cause for relief.
