It looks like the left has been caught pushing another false narrative. This isn’t anything new, but it appears this one has backfired in an interesting way. In this instance, they have found themselves in the dubious position of defending violent gang members.
The left and their close friends and allies in the establishment media deliberately mischaracterized some comments President Trump made regarding MS-13, one of the most brutal street gangs in the United States. What followed was a flurry of false outrage over remarks that were clearly taken out of context.
President Trump Calls MS-13 Animals
During a meeting earlier this week, President Trump discussed illegal immigration with law enforcement officials. One of the sheriffs stated that her police force had trouble identifying members of MS-13. President Trump responded. “We have people coming into the country, or trying to come in — and we’re stopping a lot of them — but we’re taking people out of the country,” he said. “You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are. These aren’t people. These are animals. And we’re taking them out of the country at a level and at a rate that’s never happened before.”
C-Span tweeted about Trump’s comments but left out the statement to which he was responding. They made it seem that the president’s response was directed at all illegal immigrants, not violent gang members.
Later, a reporter asked Trump to clarify his comments. He said:
“Well, it has nothing to do with this meeting. I’m referring, and you know I’m referring, to the MS-13 gangs that are coming in. I was talking about the MS-13.”
Instead of playing into the left’s narrative, Trump doubled down in his statements. He said he would continue to refer to members of MS-13 as animals.
The left responded by doing what they do best: They lied about Trump’s remarks.
The Media Defends MS-13
After Trump’s meeting, the left went into overdrive. At first, they attempted to convince the American public that his comments were directed towards all illegal immigrants. Several members of the left chimed in.
Planned Parenthood — who kill thousands of babies every year — posted the following tweet: “Immigrants are. They are our neighbors, our friends, and members of the Planned Parenthood family. One hateful man will never, ever speak for all of us.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also expressed his disapproval. “when all of our great-great-grandparents came to America they weren’t ‘animals,” he tweeted. “And these people aren’t either.”
But that’s not all. Several establishment media outlets also joined in on the deception. ABC News tweeted, ‘Pres. Trump refers to some who cross the border illegally as ‘animals,’ not people. “You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are.’”
The New York Times also tweeted, “Trump lashed out at undocumented immigrants during a White House meeting, calling those trying to breach the country’s borders ‘animals’”
CNN, NBC, and The Washington Post, also published similar tweets. After it became clear that the left was lying about Trump’s comments, they resorted to defending the people he was truly condemning: MS-13. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said, “Does he not believe in the spark of divinity, the dignity, and worth of every person? Calling people animals is not a good thing.”
Faux Republican commentator Ana Navarro also slammed Trump for daring to refer to members of MS-13 as animals. She tweeted, “Trump is in the very bad company. Nazis referred to Jews as ‘rats.’ Slave-owners viewed slaves as sub-human animals.”
Why Would The Left Defend Brutal Gang Members?
In their reaction to Trump’s comments, the left backed themselves into a corner. After pretending Trump was making disparaging remarks about Mexicans, they decided to stick up for members of MS-13. So why would they do this? Why not just portray Trump’s meeting accurately? The answer is simple: Attacking Trump is more important than telling the truth.
The left knows just as much about MS-13 as the rest of us — and yet, they still chose to support these vile, ruthless, killers instead of reporting the facts. Here’s the truth: MS-13 is a gang of animals. Their members torture, dismember and inflict gruesome horrors on their victims. There aren’t many Americans who would disagree with Trump when he calls MS-13 members animals.
The left tends to defend those who are evil. This past week, we saw them defend Hamas when they instigated violence against Israel during the opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem. We have seen them stand up for Iran when Trump decided to pull out of the flawed nuclear deal.
The idea that they would criticize the president for making negative comments against one of the most vicious gangs in the United States isn’t shocking. However, it does demonstrate that they are not in touch with the rest of the American public. In essence, they have sacrificed their credibility in favor of embracing their vendetta against the president. They have yet to realize that their behavior is why they got Trump in the first place.
