There are plenty of reasons Americans have stopped trusting the media. In the age of former President Donald Trump, members of the press all but threw off any pretense of objectivity as they mobilized their propaganda machine against him and his supporters. But even in matters not related to their favorite orange boogeyman, the media has shown their true nature as progressive activists dressed in journalist’s clothing. Their handling of the atrocity committed in Waukesha, Wisconsin, weeks ago further demonstrates their actual mission: influence rather than inform.
Burying Waukesha

In the aftermath of the attack in Waukesha, which killed six people, activist media outlets went into full spin mode after discovering the suspect was a 39-year-old black man named Darrell Brooks. The alleged assailant had a lengthy criminal history and had been recently released from jail on a paltry bail amount due to progressive bail reform policies, according to The New York Post.
Brooks allegedly drove his SUV into a crowd of Waukesha residents participating in a Christmas parade. Screenshots of his Facebook page showed a slew of anti-white posts and support for Black Lives Matter. He also called for violence against white Americans. But even after this information was revealed, various activist media outlets insisted on publishing headlines stating that a car had run into the crowd of people on that day – mention of the driver was sparse. This has prompted numerous high-profile individuals – including podcaster and comedian Joe Rogan – to lambast the press for attempting to cover up the details of the tragedy.
Republican officials in Wisconsin have spoken out against the activist media’s naked attempt to memory hole the story. State Rep. Cindi Duchow, a Republican resident of the city, told The Post: “We’ve got six people dead and teenagers so badly injured they will have to learn to walk again – at Christmas.”
Duchow continued:
“Because this was a black guy who did it, the media doesn’t want to cover it. They were all over the Rittenhouse case because that kid was white. Race doesn’t matter to us here, but the media makes everything about race.”
State Sen. Chris Kapenga echoed Duchow’s sentiments and has started a campaign to remove Milwaukee district attorney John Chisholm, whose office was responsible for releasing Brooks on $1,000 bail despite his criminal history. He noted that the left “was so sympathetic to Kyle Rittenhouse’s victims but they’re not saying a word about the victims here.” He continued:
“It’s not fitting their narrative. The reality is that this person [Brooks] is pure evil and the left’s soft-on-crime policies are blowing up in their face. But they want to ignore it and hope it goes away. Meanwhile the parents of the 8-year-old boy killed at the parade are having to face their first Christmas without him.”
Narrative Over Truth
A Fourth Estate that was concerned with discovering the truth and reporting to their audience would still be covering the assault in Waukesha. They would find out everything they could about the suspect and make sure the nation knew the details regardless of who the person was. But since America no longer has an actual journalistic media establishment, media activists and other members of the chattering class are only willing to focus on a story if it serves their political purposes.
To put it simply, the only time they deign to deal with a story such as this is if it serves to advance a preferred narrative. For starters, the alleged assailant is black, which is problematic for media activists like CNN’s Don Lemon or MSNBC’s Joy Reid. You see, this means they cannot promote an “angry white man” narrative and somehow tie it to Trump. Brooks’ skin color prevents them from fomenting more tension between races.
Moreover, Brooks allegedly carried out the attack using his SUV as a weapon. There was no pistol. No AR-15s were in sight. While these outlets were more than willing to make it seem as if his SUV magically drove itself into a crowd, there were no calls for vehicle control. This incident did not provide the fodder the anti-gun crowd would need to renew calls for stricter gun control measures that do nothing but make people feel better while making it harder for responsible Americans to obtain firearms.
Because race and gun elements were not present, this story had to drift slowly into oblivion with only a few scant mentions here and there so these media activists can look like they care about the lives lost. The saying used to be, “if it bleeds, it leads.” But perhaps 2021 has necessitated a change to this maxim. A more fitting saying might be: “If it’s of no use, cut it loose.”
