If you aren’t already sure that the left is out of touch with the American public, this one is for you. According to a Harvard-Harris poll, the majority of voters have grown weary of the Trump/Russia collusion narrative.
This should not come as a surprise, given that the Democrats and their friends in the establishment media have been trying for nearly a year to convince the American public that President Trump’s campaign collaborated with Russia to influence the results of the election. It appears Americans have less patience for hearing unproven allegations than the left believed. Go figure.
The poll found that 64% of voters believe the Russia investigation is dragging the country down. 56% believe there are more important matters that the government should address. 73% are concerned that the investigations are distracting Congress from the real issues. 62% did not believe there was enough evidence of collusion.
The results of the poll show that Americans do not think there is any validity to the Trump/Russia story – and yet, the establishment media still insists on pushing this flawed narrative. It became their favorite conspiracy theory. It is no wonder people have grown tired of hearing it – they can easily see that the press is not reporting on real news. Instead, they are using their platform for their partisan agenda.
Now that former F.B.I. Director James Comey all but debunked the left’s baseless accusations regarding “Russiagate,” they have moved on to another narrative: obstruction of justice. Since they are finally beginning to realize that Americans are no longer interested in the Russian conspiracy, they want to convince the public that the president committed obstruction of justice when he asked Mr. Comey to let former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn off the hook. However, it does not seem that the public is buying this one either. While 37% of voters believed President Trump’s request to be inappropriate, 58% do not believe he obstructed justice. Additionally, 60% feel that Mr. Comey should have told the public that President Trump was not being investigated.
Although most of the findings were favorable toward the president, some of the results were not so positive. The majority of voters believe Mr. Comey’s statements about his conversations with President Trump and 56% do not believe Mr. Comey should have been fired. Some of the results were also negative for the media and other opponents of the Trump administration, as 62% of respondents feel that there is “a campaign to delegitimize the president.”
There is nothing shocking about the results of this poll. The American public knows that no evidence of collusion between Russia and President Trump has surfaced despite the establishment media’s fervent attempts to convince us otherwise. The investigation has progressed for almost a year – and with the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, it will last even longer. The simple truth is that people don’t want to hear any “Russiagate” stories until something actually happens. Unfortunately for the left, their strategy has backfired.
The new obstruction narrative will likely go the way of the Trump/Russia collusion theory. While most of the voters believed Trump’s actions to be inappropriate, they do not believe he attempted to obstruct justice. Additionally, they do not believe his actions warrant impeachment. The left has so often cried wolf with its conspiracy theories that nobody believes them. It is not a coincidence that Americans have lost trust in the news media.
The Harvard-Harris poll should serve as a warning sign to the left and their allies in the news media. The public is not interested in conspiracy theories and partisan propaganda. They don’t want to listen to pundits rant about President Trump’s “crimes” without evidence to support their claims. People want to be informed, not influenced. If the press’ behavior up to this point is any indication, they will continue to stay the course with their failing strategy. The results will be fewer viewers for leftist news outlets and more lost elections for the Democrats.
