The United Nations is at it again. After voting to condemn Israel for its settlement activity in December of 2016, they are now working to add the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to a list of entities that commit inhumane acts against children.
This action would put the IDF on the Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflicts. If added to this directory, the IDF would be considered an offender comparable to countries that routinely commit horrific acts against children.
Here are some of the nations that are already on the list:
- Afghanistan
- Syria
- Democratic Republic of Congo
- Myanmar
- Yemen
There are terrorist groups who have been placed on the list as well. These are nations and groups who slaughter scores of children on a regular basis.
The IDF does not belong on this list. This move by the United Nations is a reprehensible act that further reveals their bias against the Jewish State. Israel is the only entity in this conflict that attempts to minimize civilian casualties. Frank Camp of the Daily Wire notes:
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) do everything they can to reduce civilian casualties when defending themselves from organizations like Hamas. The IDF drops leaflets and makes mass phone calls in order to warn Palestinian civilians of imminent strikes; they also “roof knock,” dropping non-explosive devices on the roofs of targets in order to allow civilians time to flee prior to an attack.
Camp goes on to write:
Hamas makes Israel’s job all the more difficult by hiding munitions in hospitals, U.N. schools, and mosques, essentially using civilians as shields.
It is true. The fact that Hamas uses children and other civilians has been an established fact that the establishment media and the U.N. don’t want you to know. The Islamic terrorist group deliberately launches their attacks from areas that are densely populated by civilians. They hide their munitions in schools and mosques.
Benyamin Korn and Moshe Phillips discuss Hamas’ tactics in a piece for Algemeiner:
On August 5, the Israeli Army released copies of an official Hamas manual that it discovered in the Shuja’iya neighborhood of Gaza, where one of the fiercest battles of the war was fought.
It’s titled “Urban Warfare,” and it was produced by Hamas’s Shuja’iya Brigade. The manual includes detailed instructions on how to use the civilians of Gaza against Israel. It explains how because of Israel’s concern about civilian casualties, Hamas can use the “presence of civilians” to its military advantage. Having civilians nearby causes the Israelis “(1) Problems with opening fire; (2) Problems in controlling the civilian population during operations and afterward; (3) Assurance of supplying medical care to civilians who need it.”
Not only has Hamas explained this tactic in writing, but journalists have also exposed this practice. Indian reporter Sreenivasan Jain videotaped Hamas operatives as they set up munitions in a mosque. He posted the video on NDTV.
Hamas is the party responsible for the deaths of Palestinian children. And the United Nations is acutely aware of this fact. In 2015, the New York Post discussed a report released by the U.N. that confirms Hamas’ use of children and innocent civilians as human shields:
The report also confirmed something Israel’s been saying all along: Hamas stored mortars and other weapons in at least three UN schools during last summer’s war and fired rockets at Israel from two of them.
Hamas’ practices are deplorable, but they are effective. Since Hamas places its rockets and weapons in areas populated by children and civilians, it puts the IDF in a quandary. If they attack, they risk collateral damage. This means that the Palestinians and their buddies at the U.N. can use civilian casualties to condemn Israel further. The terrorist group is using their people as propaganda tools.
If Israel choose to use restraint — and they usually do — then Hamas can continue launching rockets and storing their weapons. It is a win/win situation for Hamas. This is the reason the IDF does their best to warn civilians in the area of impending attacks.
The conventional wisdom would dictate that Palestinian civilians would flee the area if they know Israel is going to attack. But this does not happen. Why — because Hamas does not allow civilians to leave these areas?
In a piece for the Telegraph, journalist Yair Lapid writes:
Tens of thousands of Palestinians have received phone calls, text messages and leaflets warning residents to vacate combat zones. Israeli air force sorties were canceled after the planes were in the air due to reports of civilian presence – all in order to prevent innocent casualties.
But Hamas forbade civilians to leave their homes, put them on rocket factory rooftops, forced the children – its children – to remain in areas that would clearly become harsh door-to-door combat zones.
Hamas justifies this by declaring the children to be “shahids,” or martyrs. They will automatically go to heaven because they are dying for Islam.
The United Nations has no right to blame Israel for deaths of Palestinian children. The Jewish State is the only party in this conflict that cares about the lives of Palestinian civilians. The U.N. is purposely lying to the rest of the world to harm Israel.
The United Nations’ blatant hypocrisy on this issue is one of the reasons why the United States is going to limit funding to the international organization. It is also why the U.S. is considering withdrawing from the Human Rights Council. It makes sense. Why should the U.S. continue to support an organization that is so obviously corrupt?
It is time to send a message to the United Nations. They do not deserve to receive our support when they are continually ignoring the real issues children and other innocents are facing. Instead of trying to help Palestinian children, they are using them as a weapon against Israel. The United States must stop making it easy for them.
