Twitter CEO Ready to Chirp?

by | Aug 21, 2018 | Articles, Free Speech

It’s subpoena season in the Swamp.  The latest person on the potential invitation list is none other than Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey as frustrated members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee begin to wield their powers.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey

Even after several representatives of the social media giant have appeared and testified about the practice of “shadow banning” conservatives, few answers have been provided about the company’s data and content policies, hence the request for Dorsey to testify under oath.

Sources close to committee members are revealing that it smacks of “delaying” and “stonewalling” and frustrations are at threat level orange for the big bird at Twitter.

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR), took to Twitter’s platform to begin pre-subpoena dialogue:

Greg Walden

“I appreciate your willingness to speak publicly on issues facing Twitter and agree complex algorithms must be better communicated to consumers. After many good faith efforts from staff, this is your formal invitation to appear before @HouseCommerce on Sept. 5.”

Shadow Banning

After months of collective outrage from conservatives for being censored on social media, Twitter came up with a solution to appease all parties – until their deception of getting around the First Amendment was discovered.

It’s called shadow banning: the act of blocking a user or their content from an online community which is not apparent to the user that they have been banned.  Only original posters can see the post. Tricky devils.

Twitter has risen to defending their platform insisting that bias does not exist, and they can’t help it if people don’t understand their techy drivel:

“We do not shadow ban. You are always able to see the tweets from accounts you follow (although you may have to do more work to find them, like go directly to their profile). And we certainly don’t shadow ban based on political viewpoints or ideology.”

But they definitely do discriminate.  Let’s ask Alex Jones who was recently driven off of Google, Facebook, and YouTube for being a little whacky in his conspiracy theories, and underwent severely limited access by Twitter.

Although several folks cheered at Jones’ removal, it worries others who understand the First Amendment.  Cable talk show host, Bill Maher, became a champion to all Americans when during his HBO show, he slammed liberals who celebrated the removal of Jones:

“If you’re a liberal, you’re supposed to be for free speech. That’s free speech for the speech you hate. That’s what free speech means. We’re losing the thread of the concepts that are important to this country. If you care about the real American shit or you don’t. And if you do, it goes for every side. I don’t like Alex Jones, but Alex Jones gets to speak. Everybody gets to speak.”

Imagine Bill Maher coming to the defense of the Infowars chief!

The Invitation Unwanted

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) penned an op-ed pressuring Dorsey to show up and explain why censoring conservatives continues unabashedly on his popular platform:

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy

“Any solution to this problem must start with accountability from companies like Twitter, whose platforms have enormous potential to impact the national conversation—and unfortunately, enormous potential for abuse.

If social media companies are committed to a healthy conversation, they should establish clear and transparent standards for penalties against their users. And they should disclose more details about their algorithms so users can see whether they are living up to their promises.”

Conservatives have always prided themselves on decorum in the face of boorish and disrespectful behavior by the opposition.  Straighten the tie, blot the lipstick, plaster a smile, and do the work of the people with out creating a scene.

But no more – conservatives are woke and continuing to rise up and slay dragons – and its about time.

The games played by Twitter, Facebook, and Google will come to an end.  No more will the Goliaths of social media platforms libel conservatives such as Google’s recent listing on the California Republican Party’s ideology as “Nazism.” Facebook will not silence Diamond and Silk for their unwavering loyalty to President Donald Trump, and Alex Jones will be able to say what the heck he wants without fear of censorship.

The invitation that most dread might just be on its way to Jack Dorsey’s cushy nest towering above the treetops in the San Francisco sky.  And he had better fly his little self to Washington D.C. and answer whatever questions are asked.  And act like an American, already.
