Monday, June 1
On Monday, President Trump hosted a teleconference with governors, law enforcement officials, and other national security officials. The focus of the discussion was how to keep American communities safe. Later in the day, the president delivered remarks from the Rose Garden. He paid tribute to the family of George Floyd and spoke of the need to prevent peaceful protests from being co-opted by extremist groups and other lawbreakers: “I am your president of law and order, and an ally of all peaceful protesters,” Trump said. “But in recent days, our nation has been gripped by professional anarchists. Violent mobs, arsonists, looters, criminals, rioters ANTIFA, and others.”
Additionally, the president called upon state governors to take action to quell the violence, including deploying National Guard units. He announced several measures aimed at tightening security, saying: “I take these actions today with firm resolve, and with a true and passionate love for our country.”
Tuesday, June 2
The president and first lady visited the Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington, D.C. In the afternoon, Trump signed the Executive Order to Advance International Religious Freedom. This EO makes the advancement and protection of religious freedoms a centerpiece of U.S. foreign policy.
Wednesday, June 3
The president had no scheduled public events on Wednesday. He had lunch with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. On Twitter, Trump congratulated Randy Feenstra, who defeated controversial Republican Rep. Steve King in the June 2 Iowa primary election.
Thursday, June 4
President Trump signed another executive order, Thursday, aimed at expediting the regulatory process for transportation infrastructure and other regeneration projects. The aim of the EO is to facilitate, without bureaucratic delays, the nation’s economic recovery.
Trump’s first act of the day, though – at one minute after midnight – was to go after the instigators of the Russia conspiracy theory. The president tweeted: “FBI & DOJ had NO EVIDENCE to start an investigation against President Trump. @FoxNews ‘These are people with subversive actions and outright lies. They doctored documents.’ @jasoninthehouse Now proven conclusively that this was the political crime of the century!”
Friday, June 5
In a series of Friday morning tweets, the president hailed the May jobs report, which showed a completely unexpected drop in unemployment. Among other things, he wrote: “Really Big Jobs Report. Great going President Trump (kidding but true)!”
The president traveled to Bangor, ME, to host a roundtable discussion with representatives from the commercial fishing industry. While there, he signed a proclamation reversing an executive order signed by Barack Obama during the final days of his presidency. That order closed off 5,000 miles of ocean from U.S. fishermen.
