China has operatives in positions influential in Congress. Is that surprising? Former President Donald Trump garnered a lot of criticism lately. What was his egregious offense deserving of the vilest invective? He pointed out in a television interview that America had enemies within its society who were working against the best interests of the United States. Wow! Imagine! President Trump explained that there are people who are Americans who are actually anti-American. Whereas Captain Obvious approved of the comment, liberals and progressives were aghast.
Trump Should Have Included China Advocates as Enemies Within
Now, we are finding that Trump may not be too far off the mark. In his explanation of the “enemy within,” Trump invoked the name of Congressman Adam Schiff. A Liberty Nation News report described one incident that might qualify Schiff as an enemy within. It seems Schiff publicly lambasted then-President Trump and Vice President Pence for having intelligence about the Taliban and didn’t inform anyone of the threat. As it turned out, there was a person who knew of the intelligence but didn’t bother to share – Adam Schiff. This level of hypocrisy is deserving of being called the enemy within. However, by focusing on Schiff and his ilk, Trump casted his net far too close to shore. In a recent Daily Caller dispatch, we learn:
“Former congressional staffers with ties to powerful members of Congress, like Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican House Whip Steve Scalise, have worked to influence policy on behalf of Pentagon-designated ‘Chinese military companies’ like DJI, BGI and Huawei. Chinese military companies are those the Department of Defense (DOD) has determined are ‘directly or indirectly owned, controlled or beneficially owned by’ the Chinese military…”
What the American taxpayer is paying for are US weapons to counter Chinese technology developed with US legislative support. Former staffers have the inside track on how best to accomplish either pushing or defeating laws that benefit the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Equally troubling, the Biden-Harris administration has institutionalized assistance to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The US Treasury Department announced new rules to “Onshore Clean Energy Technologies, Strengthen Critical Minerals Supply Chains, and Expand US Manufacturing Base as Part of Investing in America Agenda,” Treasury said in a news release. Among the rules implementing the “Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) by the Treasury Department is the “Advanced Manufacturing Production Credit” portion of the IRA. The IRA drives investment of $77 billion for batteries, the majority of which are made or have components made in China; $6 billion for critical minerals, with no clear direction that the source must be American and the top producer in the world is China; and $19 billion for solar energy, where again there is no prohibition on the solar panels coming from China, the largest producer of solar panels in the world. While the Biden-Harris administration’s Treasury Department is patting itself on the back, Beijing is filling its coffers with US greenbacks. If it were not so, legislation to stop it would not have been introduced.
To that end, Congressmen John Moolenaar (R-MI) and Darin LaHood (R-IL) put forward a bill that “would prohibit companies affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from receiving green energy production tax credits implemented by the Biden administration in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA),” a press release explained. Despite what it says, the Biden-Harris administration is actively working against the interests of American taxpayers and American manufacturing. An Atlantic Council report pointed to the pressing need for the United States to develop supply chains for critical materials that exclude China or CCP-affiliated companies. “Unfortunately, current policies, including regulations from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), are doing exactly the opposite,” the Council assessment said.
Congress Issues Report Critical of Biden-Harris Administration
A recent comprehensive report issued by the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Majority Staff titled “CCP Political Warfare: Federal Agencies Urgently Need a Government-Wide Strategy” is a scathing indictment of the Biden-Harris administration’s failure in confronting America’s near-peer global threat. Worse, the current administration is promoting the CCP’s influence in the US. “Unlike the first Cold War, the adversary is already within, having entrenched itself within US borders, institutions, businesses, universities, and cultural centers by capturing elites in influential circles,” the report warns. Whereas some congressional committees, agencies, and institutions have been vigilant to ferret out and protect US interests, others have been negligent and opened the door to Beijing’s forays into every aspect of life in America.
Though Donald Trump was accurate accurate in his assessment of Americans having to contend with an enemy within, his calling out one legislator and the media for being the enemy of the US was too narrow. The National Security Strategy identified China as the number one threat to the US economy and keeping Americans safe. Expanding the aperture to include all those willing to suborn the safety and future of their fellow citizens by pursuing personal financial gains or geopolitical favor dealing with the CCP is realistic. There is an insidious, silent fifth column masquerading as patrons of the people. They are the enemies within.
