Sometimes, you can’t help but wonder if the left’s obsession with racism stems from a desire to hide bigotry on their side of the political divide.
Last year, Daniel R. Meachum, an Atlanta-based attorney, filed a racial discrimination case against left-wing news outlet CNN. The judge dismissed the case because he did not have enough alleged victims.
Now, Meachum is back, with 30 more alleged victims which brings the total to 205 potential plaintiffs. The lawyer told Fox News that “educated, well-intentioned, experienced and talented African-Americans are being discriminated against.”
For all their talk about tolerance and their false allegations of racism against their political opponents, leftist media organizations like CNN seem to be just as guilty of the type of behavior of which they accuse others.
The Allegations Against CNN
Celeslie Henley, one of the plaintiffs in the first lawsuit, stated that she worked for CNN for seven years, after which she was allegedly terminated for emailing the human resources department about racial discrimination. Henley’s is one of just several claims alleging that the news organization had a “glass ceiling” on the career aspirations of black employees.
Meachum stated that he is drafting a new complaint which addresses the issues the judge outlined for them when he dismissed the first suit.
The attorney told Fox News that he knows proving discrimination isn’t easy, but the plaintiffs “are not overly sensitive, walking around with chips on their shoulder.”
Meachum intends to refile the lawsuit sometime this year after he gathers the required paperwork from the new plaintiffs. The new plaintiffs will be named in an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission action and have 90-day right-to-sue letters.
The Hypocrisy Of The Establishment Media
It might be tempting to think that CNN is just an aberration on the left — certainly not indicative of other liberal news outlets. Before you go down that road, I must inform you that CNN is not the only network dealing with allegations of racial discrimination.
In 2015, Lynda Mauze, a former employee of CBS Sports, filed a lawsuit against the news agency. The suit alleged that the organization limited her career growth options because of her race, and then terminated her employment when she spoke out.
Lynda MauzeIn 2008, Mauze was put in charge of commercials and promotions for the network. It was at this point that her career hit a glass ceiling. The complaint states, “Soon after her hire by CBS Sports, Ms. Mauze found her career stagnated in comparison to the routine advancement of her white and male colleagues.”
According to Mauze, she was unable to get promoted in 2012, but “every single member” of her department received a promotion two months later. The former CBS employee stated that she never received a single promotion during her employment at the news agency.
The New York Times has also faced legal action for racial discrimination. Earlier this year, six people filed complaints against the newspaper alleging that they deliberately favor white staffers in their hiring practices. The complaint, drafted by attorney Douglas Wigdor, states that not only does the Times “have an ideal customer (young, white, wealthy), but also an ideal staffer (young, white, unencumbered with a family).”
Apparently, the Gray Lady has a distinct racial preference when it comes to its employees. But, it gets even better.
The Washington Post was also facing a racial discrimination lawsuit. According to plaintiff David DeJesus, an advertising account manager who worked for The Post for 22 years, three former employees were pushed out of the organization and replaced by younger whites.
The complaint also describes a toxic work environment for older, black employees who experienced racist jokes, witnessed preferred treatment for white employees and dealt with segregated seating. DeJesus’ attorneys allege that the affidavits “attest to the Post‘s discriminatory patterns and practice, mistreating and forcing out African American and older employees in a systematic effort to replace them with young, less experienced white individuals at cheaper wages,”
The lawsuit, which The Post settled in August, was ignored by the other establishment media outlets. MSNBC’s Joy Reid and Rachel Maddow both passed on the story. Politico and Huffington Post also refused to look into the allegations against The Post.
What Does This Mean?
Remember when the news broke that Fox News was being sued for racial discrimination earlier this year? The left-wing establishment media gleefully reported on the story, attempting to paint the conservative news network as an organization full of bigots. However, it appears that their reaction to Fox News was another case of the proverbial pot calling the kettle black.
People of all political opinions can be racist — but the left has succeeded in convincing a significant number of Americans that conservatives are the primary purveyors of racism in our culture today. They rush to cry “racism” when someone who is right of center disagrees with them on the issues. However, if they were truly serious about combatting real racism, they would start within their own ranks.
