There is a form of argument in legal circles called reductio ad absurdum – it means disproving a statement by showing it inevitably leads to a ridiculous or absurd conclusion. And as we examine the year-long special counsel investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, the left’s concoction of a plot by Trump, first to conspire with Russians to rig the election, then to cover it up by firing the FBI Director, is laid to waste by considering their two irreconcilable assertions about President Trump.
Put simply, to believe what the left has alleged, you would have to believe Trump is at once both a dunce and a genius.
Everyone agrees that Trump ran one of the most disorganized, chaotic presidential campaigns in American history, and has been condemned by the left as a clueless Neanderthal. And yet, at the same time, they claim that he orchestrated a plot to collude with the Russians which was so clever and intricate that it has for one full year escaped the grasp of even a special counsel with virtually unlimited powers and his 17 A-list investigators specifically assigned to uncover it.
Yes, this is what the left would have you believe.
Where is the Truth?
But you can’t have it both ways. So which is it? Trump is either a bumbling ignorant fool or a brilliant mastermind who has managed to steal an election, ascend to the most powerful position in the world and orchestrate the greatest cover-up since the JFK assassination.
It brings to mind the hysterical skit from the 1980s on Saturday Night Live, where President Ronald Reagan plays the amiable dunce when meeting a girl scout, and then instantly transforms into a devious, micro-managing mastermind of a plot to aid Central American rebels. Watch here:
Maybe the answer for the left would be to claim that Trump is an “idiot savant,” a person who is considered mentally handicapped but displays brilliance in a specific area.
Of course, the left and their handmaidens in the elite media have moved on from collusion after myriad futile attempts to connect unconnectable dots, now switching their focus to an absurd allegation of obstruction of justice (or anything else they can think of on a given day). As if the firing of James Comey was something they actually find abhorrent. 
Facing Reality
But here is a question the left refuses to answer: how many leftists wanted Comey fired the moment he reopened the Clinton email investigation in the waning days of the 2016 presidential campaign? Virtually all of them. And yet now they depict Comey as some sort of earnest patriot standing up to a fascist bully, and assert that his entirely legitimate, constitutionally authorized firing constitutes obstruction of justice because it was Trump who dropped the axe? That Trump actually thought, by firing Comey, he would end the investigation? That whoever followed Comey into the top spot at the FBI, or de facto Justice department head Rod Rosenstein, would simply cancel the probe?

That would take Trump ignoring the entire history of how federal investigations are conducted, resting not on the desires of the FBI Director, but the political forces which launch such probes. So when it comes to Trump understanding the consequences of his own actions, the left returns from Trump the mastermind who orchestrated a plot to take over the country, to Trump the non-amiable dunce.
What the Democrats really believe is that all Trump did was…nothing. He did nothing to stop the Russians from whatever independent activity they engaged in to embarrass Hillary Clinton. (As if they would have stepped in and stopped the Russians if they were similarly undermining Donald Trump. Get serious.)
But they can’t say this, because it would amount to an admission that Trump had nothing to do with Russian interference.
Let’s get to the bottom line here. The left, from Hillary Clinton all the way down to the bile-spewing leftists at the bottom of the food chain, will never surrender their belief that this country could not, would not ever elect a troglodyte like Trump unless foul play was involved. To this day, they still can not accept that the woman labeled as “the most qualified candidate ever to seek the presidency” could possibly lose straight up to this guy. That belief has fueled their every move since that fateful night in November of 2016 when their world was shattered.
Much like the grassy knoll conspiracy theorists with the Kennedy assassination, the magnitude of the crime (like Hillary losing to Trump) was so much greater than the identity of the lowly assassin that they can’t bring themselves to believe it could have happened without a nefarious plot hatched by one of the more corrupt institutions and powerful evil-doers.
Digging up the Crime
Yes, when pressed to the wall, the left will admit they have been forced to give up on collusion, but not before they spread and magnified scurrilous unproven allegations resting on a foundation of quicksand known as the Democrat-funded Steele Dossier and a memo shamelessly leaked by a bitter James Comey out for revenge against the President. All of it leading to an investigation in search of a crime – targeting the man, then trying to dig up a crime.
And now, they are claiming the actual crime of obstruction of justice – for Trump exercising his constitutional prerogative to hire or fire anyone in the executive branch at his pleasure – for any reason or no reason.
This is the shredder they have put the country through since the day Trump was elected. And when the smoke finally clears, and the dust settles from this outrageous attempt at a not-so-silent coup d’etat which has further divided an already bitterly balkanized nation, the left better damn well be held accountable for the damage they have wrought.
