As the Lone Star State prepares for its next legislative session in 2023, those pushing political and cultural indoctrination in Texas’ public schools have now been put on notice. Gov. Greg Abbott posted a tweet on Nov. 28 noting that he and Republican lawmakers will take up the matter next year. Abbott’s message? Legislation is on the way:
“Our schools are for education, not indoctrination. We will put a stop to this nonsense in the upcoming legislative session. Schools must get back to fundamentals & stop pushing woke agendas. We will pass laws to get it done.”
Is Indoctrination on Its Way Out?
Abbott’s tweet linked to an article from Fox News that detailed how a Texas teacher bragged about “indoctrinating the youth” by asking each of her students “whether they believed a non-binary identity made them uncomfortable.”
Kelsey McCracken, who teaches at W.A. Meacham Middle School in the Fort Worth Independent School District, said on the video that students were “lining up at my door.” She instructed kids to use the term “Mx.” instead of “Ms.” and came out to them as non-binary, which means she does not identify as either male or female. “For me, the students are amazing about it,” McCracken explained. “Pretty much all of my students call me ‘Mx.’ or call me by my first name … There are some [staff] around the school who still call me ‘Ms.’ I just don’t have the energy or effort to correct them.”
The educator went on to further detail conversations she has with her students.
“But a lot of people falter when it comes to … ‘ma’am.’ And one of my students came up to me the other day and said, ‘Mx., what do I call you because if I say, ‘Yes, ma’am,’ that feels disrespectful, but if I just say, ‘Yes,’ that also feels disrespectful. My genuine question is, is there a non-binary way of saying that?’” she queried.
Abbott’s tweet was met mostly with agreement from other users on Twitter. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) wrote: “This is critically important — and getting it done will require FULL empowerment of parents with choice as the ultimate accountability … and cutting state funding to any schools that perpetuate this & related CRT. #EmpowerParents #TxLege”
Indoctrination in Texas

Despite what many may have assumed, the indoctrination-in-education issue has plagued red states for years. In several ways, Texas has become ground zero in the battle against the effort to influence young minds into embracing so-called progressive ideology as it relates to race, gender identity, and sexuality. Some school districts have refused to go along with the far-leftist agenda and have employed measures to counteract it. Naturally, the left is pushing back.
In North Texas, gender identity and sexual orientation classes have already been implanted in several school districts. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has filed complaints with the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights in response to programs put into place in Keller and Frisco Independent School Districts.
WFAA News reported:
“Trustees at Frisco ISD unanimously approved a policy that would require students to use bathrooms corresponding to their biological sex. Board members voted to approve the policy 7-0 during its Nov. 14 meeting. The policy, however, explicitly states that it would not prohibit the district from making accommodations for students or parents upon request.
“Keller ISD banned books that mentioned gender fluidity in order to ‘protect children from sexually explicit age-inappropriate material.’ The board passed the measure during its Nov. 14 meeting, 4-2.”
Conservative politicians and citizens have been fighting against this indoctrination since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and subsequent school lockdown orders revealed that educators were introducing these ideas to children behind their parents’ backs. In Florida, the legislature passed the Parental Rights in Education Act and the Stop WOKE Act to crack down on districts using this material to influence young children. Now, it appears Texas is poised to follow suit, which will likely ignite another national controversy in which Democrats and the activist media attempt to paint its lawmakers as bigots.
Nevertheless, this could become another major blow to progressives in their movement to have their ideas dominate the classroom. If conservatives manage to effectively combat these efforts at the state and local levels, they might just be able to shield the next generation from the attempt to turn them into far-leftist activists.
