If anyone needed further proof that the Democratic Party is out of touch with regular Americans, a recent survey from Rasmussen Reports shows supporters of Trump’s conviction in this second impeachment are in the minority. The results raise an important question: How will the Democrats’ inability to let it go impact the party in 2022 and 2024?
How Do Americans Feel About Impeachment?
A majority of people polled – 57% – fear the upcoming Senate trial will “cause more division.” Only 19% believe it will unite the country. Even on the issue of whether Trump deserves to be convicted, 45% say he should be and 50% say he shouldn’t.
A Senate vote indicated that the effort to convict and remove Trump after he is already out of office is sure to fail at this point, with 45 senators voting to declare the trial unconstitutional. The vote came after a fiery objection lodged by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who savaged Democrats for dragging the nation through another impeachment fiasco even though Donald Trump is now a private citizen.
Nevertheless, the Democrats appear intent on pushing forward. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said, “Make no mistake, there will be a trial, and the evidence against the former president will be presented in living color for the nation and every one of us to see once again.”
Will the Dems Pay for this Later?

Donald Trump
The Rasmussen survey, as well as others, indicate that the Democrats’ actions could redound negatively on them in the 2022 midterm elections and possibly even the next presidential race. Moreover, the foundation upon which the Democrats’ case was built has been demolished by recent investigations into the U.S. Capitol riots.
The Democrats are trying to convict Trump ostensibly because he gave a speech that incited his followers to launch an assault on the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6. However, media reports have indicated that investigators found evidence that the riots were planned well in advance of Trump’s speech.
To sum it all up, at least half of the survey respondents believe the Democrats are wasting time and tax dollars on an impeachment founded on questionable evidence. It is an endeavor that seems destined to fail harder than Charlie Brown trying to kick the football, as well as a serious display of overkill.
To many, it’s clear this is just another politically motivated farce fueled by Trump hatred. At this point, the people want to move on – and the Democrats’ inability to quit Trump will only aggravate Americans more than necessary. There can be no doubt that this frustration will show up at the polls in the years to come.
