President Donald Trump was busy giving an update on the economy when the Secret Service suddenly escorted him out of the room. The president calmly stepped away from the podium, giving no hint as to what might be happening. A few minutes later, the commander in chief returned and said that all he knew was there was a shooting just outside the White House. He continued in a calm demeanor with the press conference. Cool under fire, and back to business as usual.
“It seems that the person was shot by the Secret Service so we’ll see what happens,” Trump said. “It was outside of the White House. It seems that the shooting was done by law enforcement at the suspect; it was the suspect who was shot,” he added.
As further details were released, it appears that a 51-year-old man had approached a Uniformed Division officer who was at his post on 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The unidentified man told the officer that he had a weapon, sprinted towards the officer, and then crouched in a firing position. The officer drew his gun and shot the man in the chest. So far, it appears that the shooting was not fatal.
