When you pander to the wacko radical leftist crowd, you can expect wacko radical leftist antics to show up at your doorstep. This is what happened on Oct. 11 when progressive activists amassed in Washington, D.C., to make a scene in the name of preventing climate change from eventually engulfing the earth in a gigantic inferno.
Climate Change Activists Swarm the Capital
Leftist protesters crowded the streets in D.C. to protest the use of fossil fuels, among other issues. Fox News reported:
“The Build Back Fossil Free coalition took to the D.C. streets Monday with their five-day-long protest’s aim to spur action by the Biden administration against climate change, mainly by declaring a national emergency and ending projects involving fossil fuels.”
The activists marched around the capital and even vandalized a statue of Andrew Jackson. Siqiñiq Maupin, who heads the Sovereign Inupiat for a Living Arctic, one of the nations of the coalition, told Fox that they are demonstrating because they believe President Joe Biden is not following through on his campaign promises regarding climate change.

“People are dying right now from the pollutants, the toxins, the climate catastrophes that are happening — and we have to stop the harm,” Maupin said in an emailed statement. “Biden’s election was riding on climate change; his entire election hinged on turning out people of color and Indigenous people.”
“But when it really comes to what matters, our lives are still being sacrificed for oil and gas,” he continued. “That’s why we’re here today.”
Protesters were heard chanting demands that Biden “respect” them or “expect” them. Not a bad rhyme scheme, is it? One of the activists wrote “expect us” in graffiti on Jackson’s statue located right outside the White House.
The group plans to demonstrate in front of the White House for a week, following a different theme each day. Monday was focused on Indigenous People’s Day in lieu of Columbus Day. A prominent Washington newspaper reported that Casey Camp-Horinek, who was with members of Native American tribes who traveled to the capital, explained that they are gung-ho about pushing the president to keep his promises related to the environment.
“We are going to put our bodies on the line there. If we have to be arrested in order to call attention to what the crisis is and that we need a climate emergency declared, we’ll do that,” she said. “There’s been 500 years of people coming into a territory where all things were interdependent and functioning to a time of crisis, where even Biden’s great-grandchildren won’t survive if something doesn’t change.”
The Build Back Fossil coalition is an alliance of various activist organizations pushing for the abandonment of fossil fuels and other measures designed to address climate change. On its website, it says:
“Our country is in crisis. In the midst of a pandemic and climate catastrophe, our communities turned out in record numbers to elect you. Now it’s time to fulfill your promises to end the era of fossil fuel production, protect communities reeling from the climate and COVID-19 crises, and #BuildBackFossilFree.”
The coalition featured an open letter to Biden on its home page, urging him to “use all the tools at [his] disposal to avert further climate devastation while helping people recover from the pandemic.” Among other things, the group asked Biden to “stop approving the fossil fuel projects fueling climate chaos,” to “declare a climate emergency,” and to “repair the harm caused by environmental racism.”
Will Biden Listen?
During the 2020 campaign, Biden gave more than just a wink and a nod to the climate crowd. He also made some rather dubious claims about fossil fuels’ impact on the environment. However, the folks with the coalition may be disappointed. Like most politicians, the president gave them lip service to win their support.
It also is worth noting that, even if Biden is serious about pushing Marxism under the guise of protecting the environment, the type of sweeping legislation these activists want would be impossible to get through Congress. Right now, Democrats are struggling even to pass the $3.5 trillion Build Back Better agenda. At this juncture, it appears that the hard left’s fears about dying in a gigantic fireball within 12 years might happen before the government manages to avert the crisis.
