Days before Hurricane Harvey made landfall, many wondered how the Trump administration would handle the impending crisis. After all, this is President Donald Trump’s first major disaster. The left and their friends in the establishment media salivated like a Rottweiler gazing at a stack of steaks, waiting for the chance to pounce on any missteps that the president would make.

Katrina Killjoy, a reporter for The Daily Whimper, beamed as she anticipated the opportunity to slam the Trump administration, “He’s going to do a horrible job, and I just know it! Thousands are gonna die because of Trump’s incompetence, and I can’t wait to blame it all on him,” she said. Other members of the press prepared for Trump’s inevitable failure by sending reporters to Houston, researching the impact of past hurricanes, and sacrificing a small goat to the Hurricane Gods to thank them for sending the storm.

Unfortunately, President Trump’s quick response to the disaster was a depressing disappointment to the left. Business Insider acknowledged the president’s quick and attentive response, “In his first week of managing the crisis, Trump was engaged in ways seldom seen during his presidency.” They continue, “Trump spent much of the week tweeting and speaking publicly about the hurricane, promising that his administration would not be forgetting about those affected by it.” Nevertheless, the left persisted. The critics of the president were numerous. Even Harry Potter author and noted natural disaster expert J.K. Rowling implied that anyone could have handled the situation better than President Trump.

First, they looked for a way to inject racism into the story. Suzie Salacious, a local liberal reporter, said, “We thought Trump would make sure only white people received aid. We were really hoping for a ‘Trump doesn’t care about black people’ moment.” Instead, the media had to settle for lambasting the president for pardoning former Sheriff Joe Arpaio. When they realized nobody cared, they quickly crafted another narrative: Trump’s empathy deficit.

Since the racism angle didn’t pan out, the left-wing media decided to portray the president as an uncaring individual – one who is oblivious to the pain and suffering experienced by the people of Texas. The Atlantic wrote, “He has not shown much in the way of sympathy.”

The Washington Post asserted, “Sadly, Trump is so lacking in human empathy that he doesn’t likely realize that his unbridled self-absorption makes him look small and selfish.”

All About the Hugs!

Ricky Ramen, a community organizer in Houston, said that President Trump’s failure to express enough sympathy for the victims showed that he doesn’t know how to handle a crisis. “Sure, he’s working to provide assistance, but he didn’t bother to hug anyone! When he gave his speech, his voice didn’t even crack.” He said, “Obama would have at least let a single tear roll slowly down his cheek like that Indian dude in the littering commercial.”

When asked if a hug is more important than receiving assistance, Ramen shot back “What kind of stupid question is that? Yes, government aid is important, but any sensible human being would rather lose everything if they know their president is willing to give hugs and say nice things!” But that wasn’t all. In addition to making sure that the government did its part to help survivors of the hurricane, he engaged in some other activities that the left found reprehensible.

Last week, President Trump announced that he would give $1 million to help the relief efforts. During a press conference, Sarah Huckabee Sanders asked members of the media to provide suggestions for charities to which the president should donate. White House Correspondent Lenny Longbottom expressed his outrage at the president’s request. “How dare he put us on the spot like that,” he fumed. “People like Jim Acosta and I only come to these stupid press conferences to see who can get the most attention. What do we know about charity?”

How Much Money?

Others rebuked the president for offering such a paltry sum of money. Joanna Jenkins, the leader of Snowflakes for Socialism, said “$1 million? That’s it? Donald Trump is rich! He knows he could afford more than that. If he really cared, he’d offer $10 million and then give the rest of his wealth to Black Lives Matter as a form of reparations.” When asked how much money her organization has donated to survivors of the hurricane, she said: “Well, what had happened was, we realized that most of these people voted for Trump, which means they like fascism, so…yeah.”

Finally, President Trump enraged the media when he came back to Texas on Saturday. He spent the day speaking with victims of the hurricane and handing out food. Members of the establishment media were flummoxed – how were they going to perpetuate the “empathy deficit” narrative now?

The president greeted survivors, passed out boxes of food, and posed for selfies. He even shook hands with – wait for it – black and Hispanic Americans! He didn’t even look disgusted when he did it. It was all on video so the press can’t even pretend it never happened. An anonymous source from The Washington Post stated, “Yeah, I think it’s time to pack it in. There’s nothing to see here, except the president actually doing his job. We can’t allow the American public to know about it.”

There you have it. Hurricane Harvey took a heavy toll on the city of Houston and surrounding areas. However, the government at the local, state and federal level has done an excellent job in handling the situation so far. Thousands of volunteers stepped up to rescue people who were stuck in their homes. Many lives were saved because of the efforts of decent Americans who went out of their way to help others. Hopefully, these individuals can serve as a bright example of unity to the rest of the country.
