Progressives in the corporate media couldn’t wait until the body was cold before they started threatening more political violence in response to the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The judge’s passing has opened up another seat on the highest court in the land and has drastically raised the stakes on an already tumultuous election season. But this development does raise a critical question: Will the conflict over Ginsburg’s seat result in more riots and looting?
Leftists Threaten More Violence Over Ginsburg
In the hours following Ginsburg’s demise, progressives on the internet resorted to calling for and threatening more widespread violence if President Donald Trump and Republicans in the Senate seek to confirm a new justice before the election. As the day went on, even more incitements began to pop up on social media from angry progressives fearing that the president will seat another judge who will protect the country from rabid leftists, legislating from the bench.
Former CNN contributor Reza Aslan, who became infamous for being sued for his nasty comments about Nick Sandmann, predictably added his voice to those calling for riots. “If they even TRY to replace RBG we burn the entire f*cking thing down,” he tweeted.
Progressive writer Laura Bassett also chimed in, claiming that there would be more violence if the Senate confirms another justice. “If McConnell jams someone through, which he will, there will be riots,” she wrote in a tweet.
Dr. Jessie Christensen, an Australian astrophysicist, threatened to join in on the violence as well. “IF THEY RAM THROUGH AN APPOINTMENT IN THE NEXT TWO MONTHS I WILL RIOT. This is an actual nightmare,” he tweeted. Professor Emmett Macfarlane tweeted: “Burn Congress down before letting Trump try to appoint anyone to SCOTUS.”
Author Beau Willimon insisted that “We’re shutting this country down if Trump and McConnell try to ram through an appointment before the election.”
Empty Threats Or Cause For Concern?
While it seems clear that some of the individuals predicting riots in response to a potential confirmation of a new justice are engaging in hyperbole, the widespread unrest that has swept American cities over the past few months indicate that these remarks should be taken seriously. At this point, the anarchy being perpetrated by the far-left has ceased being about the death of George Floyd. In fact, it was likely never about him in the first place.
Currently, Antifa operatives are destroying communities simply to push their anti-government agenda. Of course, it isn’t the existence of government that has inspired them to violence — it is the desire to replace the state with an authoritarian apparatus molded and shaped in their image.
More violence may break out if the president and Senate manage to push through another confirmation. But in reality, these threats do not have teeth, as every thinking person understands that the buffoons engaging in the rioting and looting aren’t going to stop if Republicans acquiesce to their demands. Put simply, if they’re going to act like childish thugs either way, why should anyone listen to them at all?
