Ever since the explosive story of Hunter Biden’s unearthed hard drive hit the press, the Democrats and their close friends and allies in the corporate media have scrambled to downplay or discredit the discovery. In so doing, they deployed a favorite tactic used to deal with information that might be politically damaging: Blame it on the Russkies. Unfortunately for them, a high-ranking intelligence official just shot down that conspiracy theory, and the Democrats might have to assuage their singed derrieres with copious amounts of vodka tonight.
Democrats’ Russia Nonsense Falls Flat
The New York Post recently published a bombshell report on Hunter Biden allegedly setting up a meeting between a high-ranking leader at Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company, and his father Joe Biden, who was serving as vice president at the time. According to emails allegedly found on Hunter Biden’s computer hard drive, Burisma executives wanted the younger Biden to use his influence to deal with allegations of criminality against the company.
Democrats like Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) were quick to label these findings as “Russian disinformation.” Corporate media outlets repeated the claim, intimating that the meeting never took place and that the contents of the hard drive were somehow planted by agents working with the Kremlin.
John Ratcliffe, the director of national intelligence, put to rest the Democrats’ latest Russia-conspiracy accusations in an Oct. 19 appearance on Fox Business With Maria Bartiromo. He confirmed that the FBI is currently investigating Hunter’s laptop and explained that the intelligence community is not involved because there was no evidence of Russian trickery.
“Let me be clear: The intelligence community doesn’t believe that because there is no intelligence that supports that, and we have shared no intelligence with Chairman Schiff or any other member of Congress that Hunter Biden’s laptop is part of some Russian disinformation campaign. It is simply not true,” Ratcliffe said.
“And this is exactly what I said I would stop when I became director of national intelligence, and that is people using the intelligence community to leverage some political narrative, and in this case, apparently Chairman Schiff wants anything against his preferred political candidate deemed as not real and is using or attempting to use the intelligence community to say there’s nothing to see here. Don’t drag the intelligence community into this. Hunter Biden’s laptop is not part of some Russian disinformation campaign.”
Ratcliffe’s remarks were a direct refutation of Schiff’s repeated claims that the story is a Russian scheme. During a conversation with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Schiff sputtered: “Well, we know that this whole smear on Joe Biden comes from the Kremlin … Clearly, the origins of this whole smear are from the Kremlin, and the president is only happy to have Kremlin help in trying to amplify it.”
“I think we know who the driving force behind this smear has been all along, and it’s been the president and the Kremlin. The Kremlin has an apparent interest in denigrating Joe Biden. They want Donald Trump to win … He’s been the gift that doesn’t stop giving for the Kremlin, so clearly, they want to help him, so they want to denigrate the vice president.”
The lawmaker also implied that the intelligence community confirmed his claim, which is why Ratcliffe set the record straight on Fox News. Ratcliffe, a former GOP congressman who was a member of the intelligence panel, said this was untrue:
“Adam Schiff saying that this is part of some Russian disinformation campaign and that the IC has assessed that or believes that is simply not true, so I appreciate the opportunity to be able to tell the American people that that is the case.”
So far, Biden’s campaign has only denied the allegations that the former vice president met with Vadym Pozharskyi, a Burisma adviser. The denial is based on “Biden’s official schedules from the time.” A Politico report noted that former senior advisers to Biden “said that while there was never an official meeting, it’s technically conceivable that Pozharskyi would have approached Biden on the sidelines of some broader U.S.-Ukraine event.”
Will This Even Be Relevant?
It comes as no surprise that Schiff was deceptive when he claimed the Hunter Biden scandal was mere Russian disinformation. But how will the establishment media handle this affair now that their Kremlin narrative has been obliterated?
With only two weeks left until Election Day, it seems probable that the left will go silent on this matter to make sure it gets as little publicity as possible. Twitter has already blocked the New York Post story ostensibly because it violated its terms of service. But it’s pretty clear that it is stopping the spread of the information because it is politically damaging to the former vice president.
The left has probably calculated that if Biden manages to defeat Trump in November, the issue will become irrelevant, and any federal investigation into the matter will be scuttled. Another reason leftists are probably praying even more fervently for a Biden victory.
