Recently, a man opened fire on The Capital Gazette’s office in Annapolis, Maryland. Five employees lost their lives and two were injured. Immediately, prominent figures on the left did what they do best: find a way to blame President Trump and conservatives for the tragedy.
Members of the establishment media and other famous leftists used their platforms to imply that Trump’s rhetoric against the bias of the press motivated the gunman to commit his crime. While their plan backfired, their behavior is yet another reminder of the depths to which many will sink to further their political agenda. Their antics have done more to repulse Americans than attract supporters.
The Left Never Lets A Good Crisis Go To Waste
While the nation mourned for the victims of the senseless attack, many left-wing journalists and activists used their deaths to launch political attacks on President Trump. They argued that his fiery rhetoric against media bias somehow inspired the shooter to commit his violent act.
At a recent rally, the president once again referred to the establishment media as, “the enemy of the American people.” Apparently, these individuals saw the incident in Annapolis as an opportunity to place the blame for the lost lives at the feet of Trump.
David Greenwald, a cultural journalist, posted a tweet stating that the shooting “is Trump’s fault.” Podcaster Amy Siskind also tweeted:
“You are responsible Donald Trump.
And if the Republican leadership doesn’t publicly condemn Trump, they too are guilty through silent complicity.
Same goes for the death threats [California] Rep [Maxine] Waters is getting.”
Lauren Duca, also a journalist, stated on Twitter that, “the shooting today in the Capital Gazette newsroom in Annapolis, Maryland cannot reasonably be separated from the President’s mission to villainize the press as ‘the enemy of the American people.’”
Not to be outdone, David Simon, the creator of the television show “The Wire,” responded to another tweet on the matter: “F*** you. A friend has not yet reported in safe. It is Trump’s direct language: ‘Enemy of the people.’ F*** you and him both.”
Rob Cox, an editor for Reuters, responded to President Trump’s tweets offering condolences to the families of the victims. “This is what happens when @realDonaldTrump calls journalists the enemy of the people,” he tweeted. “Blood is on your hands, Mr. President. Save your thoughts and prayers for your empty soul.”
The left’s hostility was not just reserved for the president. They also called out conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos for comments he made to a journalist earlier in the week in which he said, “I can’t wait for vigilante squads to start gunning down journalists.”
Joshua Holland, a contributor to The Nation, tweeted:
Just two days after Milo Yiannopoulos called for “vigilante squads” to shoot journalists.”
Left-wing activist Ryan Knight tweeted similar sentiments:
“YESTERDAY: Trump supporter Milo Yiannopoulos, “I can’t wait for vigilante squads to start gunning down journalists.”
TODAY: Journalists gunned down at the offices of a newspaper in Annapolis.
Is the media ready yet to talk about the VIOLENCE Trump is inciting in America?”
Of course, it didn’t take long for the authorities to uncover the true motive for the shooting. As Liberty Nation reported, the gunman had a longstanding feud with The Capital Gazette. He had sued the newspaper for defamation in 2012, lost the lawsuit and continued to make threats against the local news outlet. As usual, Trump Derangement Syndrome caused these individuals to eagerly rush to blame the president for the incident without waiting for the facts to emerge.
Does The Left Want More Trump?
For unknown reasons, many on the left believe that their extreme rhetoric actually benefits their cause. They seem to think that unfairly demonizing those with whom they disagree will make more Americans want to join their side. However, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Open-minded Americans appear to be repulsed by the left’s behavior. This reality is evidenced by the enormous success of the #walkaway movement, in which thousands of people have taken to social media to express their disillusionment with the Democratic Party. A simple Twitter search reveals that these individuals are leaving the left in droves, primarily due to its penchant for fomenting hate and attacking civil political discourse.
Of course, many American leftists do not engage in this type of behavior. Indeed, at a recent left-leaning rally in Austin, Liberty Nation found plenty of people who are willing to engage in civil dialogue. Regrettably, these are not the people who garner the most attention. The establishment media tends to focus on those who favor extremist rhetoric. They are clearly oblivious to the negative impact this behavior has on their ability to influence the public.
The left’s overt hostility towards right-wingers is one of the main reasons why conservatives have managed to gain victories in elections and the culture. It appears that leftists have yet to learn from their mistakes.
