If California Governor Gavin Newsom has his way, residents of the Golden State will pony up their hard-earned cash to cover the costs of health care for illegal aliens. It seems the Golden State leader is bolstering President Joe Biden’s open borders agenda by offering even more incentives for illegals to cross into the U.S. Will this prompt an increase in Californians fleeing the state for greener pastures?

On Jan. 10, Newsom discussed his $213 billion California Blueprint plan, which would create “a new statewide gun buyback program” and “expand health care coverage to all low-income Californians, regardless of immigration status,” according to Fox News.
“Here’s the big one: California is poised to be, if this proposal is supported, the first state in the country to achieve universal access to health coverage,” Newsom explained. “So, what does that mean? It means full-scope Medi-Cal, including long-term care, IHSS [In-Home Supportive Services], and behavioral health to all low-income Californians, regardless of immigration status.”
The measure also would provide state-funded abortions for illegals. The governor speculated that the plan would be fully in effect by January 2024.
In a press release, Newsom announced:
“With major new investments to tackle the greatest threats to our state’s future, the California Blueprint lights the path forward to continue the historic progress we’ve made on our short-term and long-term challenges, including responding to the evolving pandemic, fighting the climate crisis, taking on persistent inequality and homelessness, keeping our streets safe and more.”
But not all California lawmakers are on board. Leader of the State Assembly’s Republican minority, Marie Waldron, decried the expansion, explaining that Medi-Cal is already failing to serve the roughly 14 million people who currently use the program. “Enrolling millions more into the system will do little but give people an expensive insurance card that doesn’t get them access to quality healthcare,” she warned.
What’s Next?
This governor and the far-leftists in California’s legislature seem intent on driving people out of the coastal paradise. As of December 2021, more residents have been fleeing the state than moving in. Los Angeles’ KTLA news reported on a recent study:
“Every single county has seen fewer people moving in from out of state since the end of March 2020, but declines were especially steep in San Francisco, Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.
“The study by the nonpartisan California Policy Lab found that the number of people moving to California dropped 38% at the end of September 2021, compared to the end of March 2020.
“Meanwhile, the number of residents leaving to other states increased 12%. That’s roughly in-line with pre-pandemic trends, according to the researchers.
“The exit rate of movers has increased in 52 of California’s 58 counties, the study found.”
Sure, there are probably plenty of Californians who are fully on board with Newsom’s agenda. After all, they keep voting for him, don’t they? At the same time, the fact that the state is losing more residents than it is gaining does not seem to faze its government.
Do progressive policies — such as strict lockdowns and mandates and forcing citizens to pay for illegal aliens’ health care — constitute a winning strategy? Add the state’s astronomical cost of living, and it is no wonder people are running to Texas, Florida, and other conservative-leaning states. After all, California’s weather isn’t that great, is it?
