The Democrats are getting desperate. On the first day of Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing leftist protesters made a spectacle of themselves in their doomed effort to block the judge’s appointment to the Supreme Court.
It was only a matter of time before leftists brought race into the conversation, and they did not disappoint. On social media, they claimed that a woman sitting behind Kavanaugh was surreptitiously sending a white supremacist message, which obviously means that Trump’s nominee is secretly a bigot who intends to use his position to oppress minorities.
You can’t make this stuff up folks.
Secret White Power Signals
Zina Gelman Bash, a former clerk for Kavanaugh, was apparently outed as a virulent white supremacist by our intrepid friends on the left. And what gave her away? Well, according to Amy Siskind, president of female advocacy group New Agenda, Bash was making a “white power” sign by holding her fingers in a way that resembles the “OK” gesture.
Siskind, in a noble display of virtue signaling worthy of race baiting legends like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, tweeted:
“What fresh hell is this!!!??? Kavanaugh’s assistant Zina Bash giving the white power sign right behind him during the hearing? This alone should be disqualify!!!”
No White Supremacy Here
Inspired by Siskind’s brave grandstanding, several other members social justice Twitter mob leaped headlong into the fray. Unfortunately, there were two problems that they did not consider.
First, the Anti-Defamation League has already stated that the “OK” gesture has no relation to white supremacy. Secondly, Zina Bash is half Mexican and half Jewish. Claiming that Bash is a white supremacist is about as foolish as accusing Sir Elton John of being a homophobe.
Of course, most of the individuals attacking Bash likely know that she is not a white supremacist. This is simply a case of the left being the left. Their knee-jerk reaction to witnessing something or someone they do not agree with is to scream “racist” like a screeching five-year old – as if that were some magical incantation that will win people to their side.
Race baiting is an integral component of leftist orthodoxy. However, the Kavanaugh hearing is an example of what happens when this rhetorical weapon is used ineffectively. Siskind probably believed that she had made an incredible discovery, but in the end, it only ended in mockery. Others on the left commented on one of her tweets urging her to stop because she was making their side look foolish.
This story is instructive in that it reveals the decreasing efficacy of the race card. The left seems to have lost all sense of reality, and this affliction motivates them to hurl accusations of bigotry at those with whom they disagree. Fortunately, the rest of the country can see it for what it is.
